During the summer holidays (end of June to end of August) King’s College Saint Michael’s uses its expertise and facilities to provide intensive English language courses as part of an incredibly popular junior summer school. The summer school is aimed at students from 10 – 17 years old, and these students come from all over the world to improve their English, meet students from other countries and explore different parts of the UK. Every year around 25 different nationalities come to Saint Michael’s for the junior summer school and many of these students return summer after summer.
Our expert teachers ensure that each lesson has specific learning objectives, whilst our sports and social team are always at hand to provide students with a wide range of fun activities and sports designed to increase students’ confidence in spoken English. Our main aim is to create a warm and friendly junior summer school where students learn English whilst having fun.

AIMS OF THE COURSE
The summer school course is designed for students
between the ages of 10 - 16.
The aims of our courses are as follows:
• to help students learn as much English as
possible in their time at the school
• to ensure that students have an enjoyable
holiday with us
• to encourage students to make new friends
from all over the world.
On arrival at the school all students
are placement tested and allocated
to class on the basis of age and
ability. Classes range from beginner to
advanced and the maximum number
of students in a class is 15.
Students have 19 classes of English
each week (15.8 hours) which consist
of 10 ‘main’ and 9 ‘subsidiary’ lessons.
The emphasis in all the classes is on
speaking and listening.
Students often work with partners or
in small groups to complete tasks and
projects.
At the end of the course they are
given a certificate of attendance and
a school report from their teacher to
take back home.
SUBSIDIARY CLASSES
The subsidiary classes focus more on group
work and class projects.
In the past students have created
pantomimes, short films, music videos and
newspapers. In addition to these projects,
on the day before an excursion students will
learn about the city or attraction they are
visiting. Students are divided into groups by
nationality to ensure English is being spoken
at all times.
PROJECTS
During the subsidiary lessons, students
are involved in a variety of projects which
encourage students to communicate
confidently.
These projects take place over one or two
weeks and are chosen by the class teacher.
The projects are designed to give students
something to return home with to show their
parents. This could be a newspaper created
by the entire class or a video of a traditional
pantomime, film or music video, which the
students have written
