The Intensive English Program offers five 7-week terms of study per academic year. The IEP serves both full-time and part-time students with proficiencies ranging from true beginner to high intermediate/advanced levels. Full-time students receive 21 hours of instruction per week addressing a complete range of language skills including reading and vocabulary development, writing and grammar, and oral communication. Enrichment courses that complement the curriculum at each level are also included, and an academic listening and note-taking instruction is included at the top levels. IEP classes are non-credit bearing.
Our program aims to create opportunities for continuous engagement between international and domestic students in order to facilitate language and intercultural development. As part of this effort, we offer a number of programs each week along with special events and course collaborations.. Our students are part of the tapestry of campus life as they attend classes on the main campus.
The University of Dayton offers conditional admission options for both undergraduate and graduate international students who are developing their English language skills. Successful completion of the IEP is one pathway for full admission.
