The General English program focuses on improving your all-round English and in particular your communication skills. Our focus is on students interacting and communicating with each other and getting you to practice and use the language you learn to make you more confident with English. Cambridge ESOL exams are the world’s leading range of certificates for learners of English. Each year they are taken by over 1.75 million people, in 135 countries and are recognised by universities and employers throughout the world.
ELC’s Cambridge Exam Preparation courses will enable you to make progress in your all-round English ability while developing skills and techniques for exam success.
ELC is an approved Cambridge ESOL Computer-Based Test centre so you will get take your final test at the school so you will be in familiar, comfortable surroundings. There are many advantages to the computer-based testing system and you will receive extensive training. The speaking test is still face-to-face and the examiners come to the school to test you.
This preparation course is a closed one which means all students start and finish their course at the same time as well as take the test on the same day. Because of this, our students have a high level of motivation and focus and this also means our students work together as a team. To help achieve this we also organise Cambridge-only social events to give you a chance to bond with your class as well as your teacher.

Program Details
This course is the best preparation for students wishing to study in English at an Australian university or business college. Whether you want to gain entry to your course via one of ELC’s direct entry agreements or by taking the IELTS examination, this program will get you into the course and ensure you are ready to enjoy it.
Course book: The Academic English program uses a Cambridge University academic English course book which focuses on improving language skills while thoroughly preparing students for the challenges of academic study. You will regularly listen to lectures on academic topics.
EAP and IELTS Preparation
All of our academic English students are planning to study at universities or other higher education colleges in Australia or elsewhere. Some may need to show an IELTS score to gain entry to their chosen course, others may be on one of ELC’s pathway programs and not require an IELTS score. Our Academic English course is tailored to meet the needs of students in both situations.
To help both EAP and IELTS students you will have weekly individual sessions with the Academic English coordinators who will create and manage your personal study plan, tailor the course to your needs, and give you feedback on your progress towards your IELTS or EAP goals or advice on your future studies. Students working towards EAP and direct entry can get extra personal assistance with their essay writing and research skills, while students preparing for the IELTS test can also use these tutorials to practice their speaking test interviews.

It was a extraordinary course, I met a lot of people, and improved my english. The teacher was excellent and we got to know each other pretty well. We also supported each other through all the learning process in order to got a good exam. It was by far the best experience ever, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to visit Australia and study in this wonderful school.

I completed 20 weeks of general english at ELC and recommend it to everyone! I started studying at the intermediate level and finished in the Upper. I enjoyed most of my classes. I had the opportunity to live with 5 Australian teachers and an American teacher who gave me full support in answering my questions and helping with questions outside of class as well. I studied in the night period and it did not stop me from improving my level of English. I also recommend the structure of the school, complete dining room, rest area, computer room available as long as you need. I'll miss ELC team, and I loved the time I spent with you!

JUST PERFECT!
I enjoyed every second!
The lessons were extremely funny. We learned so much about different nationalities. The most students were alone in Australia, that is no problem because your family is there is ELC!
ELC is very different as the German schools. That's perfect ;) In my country I was very happy at the weekend. No school...Yeeea!
In Australia I really missed the school, the teacher and the other students at the weekend.
ONE OF THE BEST TIME IN MY LIFE!!!

ELC is a very good school. i had made 6 months here and i had wonderful time ! If you come in ELC you can meet the people of the whole world because ELC doesn't make the different with the people. The teachers are very professional and fun because we are between adults. The activity after school is very good because you can visit Sydney with the best prices. For my experience i learned English very quickly thanks to ELC ! I really advice you this quality school !

I am very satisfied with ELC. Lessons are very interesting and usefully. I like the system of classes, in first time we learn and than we practise it. Teachers and classmates are very nice and friendly. ELC also offers many activities for visiting Sydney proposed by school. I can honestly say, by my experience, the teachers really want to improve our english. Escape your ordinary life and come to study at ELC in Sydney !
