Welcome to the International Language Academy (ILA)! Traveling to a new country can be overwhelming, but our Academy has everything to help you succeed. We are of medium size: small enough to provide personal service, but large enough to have excellent facilities and resources. Our knowledgeable staff will assist you through the application process, with completing and fulfilling all of your immigrant documents if applicable, and designate time to sit and speak with you one on one about all of our programs to ensure we satisfy all of your goals while here. Upon completion of our program, our staff will even provide assistance with university admissions. ILA aspires to set each and every one of our students up for success through our personalized approach and commitment to student achievement!

This course is for students aged: 16-70
3 levels program, that focuses on Pronunciation and Conversational Training that is designed to develop oral communication skills, and build learner confidence. Students will benefit from a focus on comprehensibility and contextualized practice. Our Academy uses a methodology that combines class room work with smart phone applications to help students learn outside the school’s setting. The course will also focus on presentation skills for adult and young-adult learners of English, which offers students an opportunity to develop the life skill of talking about topics to an audience outside the class room.

Preparing for the standardized tests is a crucial aspect of the process of applying to universities in the United States. The International Language Academy of Washington D.C., offers a variety of test preparation classes to better prepare students who are taking TOEFL, ILETS, SAT, GRE, and GMAT, with sessions that are held during regular class hours, evening, and weekends to better accommodate individual needs.

Our Intensive English program, which consists of 25-30 hours of classes time per week, levels range from beginner to advanced, and includes test preparation courses. The course focuses on Speaking, Listening, Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Reading and Writing. Completing the program will prepare students to begin their academic journey at American universities and help them achieve English language proficiency as they learn key English language skills and engage in practical, real-world conversations.
Upon arrival at ILA, students will complete an English proficiency test, and their performance will determine which level they will be placed in.

This professional training course incorporates current business theory with practical and critical thinking skills, to provide a context based approach to business English. The Academy will tailer the Business English Course to the needs of the students and their sponsor, with special emphasis on Marketing, Finance, Management, ICT and Human Resources. All courses will help learners communicate better when presenting, taking part in meetings and negotiating. The course builds confidence and fluency by encouraging students to analyze tasks and take part in realistic activities.

The Legal English Program is designed to introduce foreign practitioners, law students, and interested students to legal English concepts. Lectures, written assignments, in-class exercises, and contract negotiations. Participants whose native language is not English will practice a wide array of legal English skills, ranging from legal reading and writing strategies to oral presentation of substantive legal issues, including input from practicing lawyers and visits to law firms and local courts, to ensure that participants experience the language in action.

Summer and Vocational programs are two to three weeks sessions, in which English Language courses are combined with fun, cultural and social activities. ILA implements a full day schedule, that starts with classes during the day, and cultural, social and entertainment activities in the evenings.
The International Language Academy of Washington D.C. welcomes students groups arranged by schools abroad, or individual students who want to take advantage of their stay in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
