UNIVERSITY DIRECT ENTRY PROGRAM (DEC)
What is DEC?
DEC is an English language program that prepares you for direct entry to your chosen course at the University of Sydney.

You will study with classmates entering courses in related university disciplines. You will learn the general skills necessary for success at university, including participating in tutorials and seminars, writing essays, conducting research and preparing research reports.

What will I learn?
You will learn English with classmates who intend to enter university courses similar to yours, and you will do projects based on topics related to your chosen university course. You will also be given an introduction to your faculty or school.

You will be assessed continuously throughout the course, with tasks that will help prepare you for the kind of assessments that you will complete at university.

If you successfully achieve all the assessment and other academic requirements including attendance, you will gain direct entry to your chosen university course (subject to visa status).

What do I need to enter?
You need a Conditional Offer of Admission to the University of Sydney and an IELTS result or equivalent.

The Occupational English Test (OET) preparation course is designed to help students and overseas-trained healthcare professionals prepare for Occupational English Test. OET assesses English language skills of healthcare professionals in 12 professions (Nursing, Medicine, Dentistry, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science) who want to register and practise in an English-speaking environment.

OET is recognised and trusted by regulatory healthcare bodies and councils in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. It is also recognised by the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection for work and student visas.

You will learn exam-taking strategies, gain extensive exam practice using past papers, develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and prepare for the four sub-tests within the OET. INTERNSHIP PROGARM (ARTS)
This unit is based around a 120 hour industry or research placement, in conjunction with a professional development program of workshops designed to provide you with the resources to enhance your intern experience.

What will I learn?
Your internship: You'll work in a real business environment if you enrol in an Industry Placement stream, and enhance your skills and capabilities working on specific projects. While in the Research Placement Stream you will work under the supervision of a learned academic staff member at the University.

Professional development workshops: These are highly interactive and student-centred, and focus on: Australian business culture, management styles, cross cultural communication, presenting your research and networking. During the internship placement, you will also attend four compulsory workshops, complete a reflective journal and a final report designed to enhance your internship experience. Available in two streams:
- Industry Placement Stream
- Research Placement Stream

What do I need to enter this course?
You need an undergraduate or postgraduate firm offer from an Australian university and a minimum IELTS of 6.5 or equivalent. If you are not at this level, you can combine your course and start earlier with Intensive Test Preparation (ITP).

How many hours a week will I need to study?
You have two options. You can study full-time for two weeks during summer and winter breaks or part-time over the semester. You will also be expected to do additional work at home.

How long is this course?
- Part-time format: 120 hours over semester
- Full-time format: 120 hours over four weeks in a research or industry placement plus workshop attendance.
This unit is administered by the University of Sydney International Services team. You may be required to fulfill additional entrycriteria as required.

1:1 COACHING
This personalised program is designed to enhance your performance in the English language. You will learn with highly-qualified and experienced ESL teachers in a 1:1 framework tailored to your specific needs. Through an initial intensive, targeted needs analysis and consultation, teachers will assess your individual requirements and develop a training program aimed at helping you to meet your professional and academic goals. Expect to enhance your communication competencies via energetic discussion and debate, critical reflection, and intensive feedback from your language teacher.

How many lessons will I need?
You and your coach will devise a personal plan based on your needs. On completion of the plan, you will receive tools for autonomous learning and ongoing mentoring. A typical 1:1 coaching program consists of a block of either 5 or 10 lessons with needs analysis, customised learning plan and detailed post-course report. In order to ensure an optimal outcome from the coaching process, it is recommended that the 5-hour package be completed in a maximum of 5 weeks and the 10-hour package in a maximum of 10 weeks.

TEACHING ENGLISH INTERNATIONALLY (EDGU)
he field of Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL) is continuously growing and developing globally. Enrolments are steadily increasing in English language institutions in Australia and overseas and the provision of English language education continues to expand in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America from early childhood to tertiary level with increasing government support.

The goal of these courses is to provide you with the foundations of successful teaching of English as a second or foreign language. The courses will encourage you to make decisions about appropriate approaches to teaching language and classroom strategies; develop your knowledge of the grammar of English; give insight into current debates within the field; and suggest directions for future thinking and planning.

What will I learn?
EDGU 2000 introduces key concepts in the field of teaching English and covers such topics as innovative teaching methods, flipped classroom strategies, approaches to integrated skills teaching and lesson planning, and then builds on these concepts and integrates additional practical teaching into the course.
