This course is for students aged: 16-70

The Intensive English Program (IEP) is a full-time English language
training program offered in 16-week sessions beginning in January, May
and the end of August. You can come for just one session, or stay for
longer – our multi-level program ensures that you will have new
challenges and new courses to select from as your English improves. When
you successfully complete three courses at one level, you will earn a UBC Certificate in English Language for that level.

Our 16 weeks sessions align with the UBC academic calendar to allow for a smooth transition for students granted conditional admission to UBC degree programs.

IEP 8 Week Option

The ELI offers an 8 week IEP option which allows for more
flexibility in start dates.  Each 16 week session has two 8 week terms.
Students who take an 8 week term will have access to the same resources
and social activities as the 16 week session students.

*Please note that students who register for an 8 week term may be placed in classes separate from ongoing IEP sections.

If you have a strong record of academic achievement but do not yet
meet the UBC English language admission standard, you may be eligible
for conditional admission to a degree program at UBC's Vancouver campus.

As a conditionally admitted student, you are accepted into your
chosen program on the condition that you develop your academic English
to the required standard through our Intensive English Program.

Once you have been offered conditional admission to a UBC degree program, you will register for the Intensive English Program (IEP), which provides full-time English language training in either:

16-week sessions scheduled to begin in January, May and September8-week accelerated session from July-Aug.

You must complete three Intensive English Program (IEP) courses –

at least 75% in each course. You may meet these requirements in a
single 16-week session or 8-week accelerated session. Please note, you
have up to 12 months to meet these requirements.
