BBC’s Learning English provides courses on three levels of difficulty. Each course session is divided into activities – there’s listening with audio and transcripts, quizzes, grammar explanations and more. You can also view individual features involving amongst others the popular ‘6 minute English’.
The English Page has weekly lessons, there is a grammar section and vocabulary divided into groups. In the Reading Room you can choose from free newspapers, magazines, books and literature. The Listening Lounge offers online listening resources.
Learn English is divided into four main sections – Vocabulary, Grammar, Improve and Resources. Except for basic vocabulary topics ranging from shapes to politics you can also learn vocabulary (and even grammar) with pictures. There is a comprehensive grammar section covering anything from adjectives to active and passive voice.
British Council Learn English offers a few sections including: Listen & Watch, Grammar & Vocabulary, Fun & Games, Business & Work, Writing, IELTS and Apps. In these sections you can find elementary podcast, a quick grammar reference, jokes, language for work, IELTS mock papers and British Council apps for learning English.
Learn English online is a free course of the English language divided into units. It focuses on grammar and is very straight forward.
BBC Learning English podcast, which offers a variety of podcasts including ones on vocabulary, idioms, grammar, news, how to, study tips, language in action etc.
Loecsen Free English Lessons teaches pronunciation of words put into categories. A very useful resource.
Live Mocha is a language exchange platform, which enables you to find a partner to talk with in a foreign language.
My English Pages offer lessons of grammar, speaking, vocabulary, idioms and phrasal verbs for all levels. This site is full of resources.
The How to… section of BBC’s Learning English offers quick vocabulary references for topics such as asking the time, discussion, conversation, instructions and many more.
English as a Second Language Podcast provides over 1500 podcasts to listen to.
