About American English Language School - Los Angeles

A leading English language school accredited by the CEA (Commission on English Language Accreditation) and approved by SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) located in Los Angeles, California. Learn English in LA with our ESL classes, TOEFL preparation, and English speaking classes. Are you serious about improving your English? Join a class today!

All of our classes are taught by native English speakers and are centered around having average 5-6 students in class (a maximum of 8 per teacher). This allows our classes to be conversation-oriented, requiring active participation from all students and allowing teachers to provide immediate feedback. We also help students throughout their English language school process, from school applications to receiving F-1 visas and navigating local life. Last, the affordable tuition ($500/month) at AELS provides the most reasonable and economical choice for students, as compared to other academic institutions' hefty tuition fees and medium to large class sizes.

AELS offers courses in ESL (English as a Second Language) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) preparation, Citizenship/Naturalization Test preparation, journal writing, book club, summer youth programs for international students, and more. Each quarter, we also host a Culture Week, where students will gain authentic speaking and listening experience through a discussion of American media and pop culture as well as personal experience garnered from guided field trips to local theaters, college campuses, local events, and museums.

The safety of our students is one of our main concerns. This is why all of our prospective teachers must get fingerprinted and obtain clearance from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) before being hired. We request a background check from the DOJ which will inform us of any active arrests or convictions. This process enables us to protect our students, staff, and administration from unnecessary danger and focus on providing students with a great education!

AELS instructors are native English speakers with English-related degrees or TESOL certifications (teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) with extensive ESL training and experience. All instructors at AELS have at least a B.A. or B.S. degree from a fully accredited four-year university. AELS instructors are patient, sincere, kind, attentive and most importantly, have a passion for teaching.

America English Language School is accredited by the CEA (Commission on English Language Accreditation) and certified by the SEVP/SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) and BPPE (Bureau for Private Post Secondary Education). In addition, AELS is a certified TOEFL iBT testing center and issues I-20 forms for an F-1 student visa.

ESL Levels from Basic to Level 5 (20 hours/week)

The ESL program at AELS consists of 6 levels, from Basic to Level 5. The final goal of the ESL program is to be able to communicate comfortably in all areas of English, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will improve their grammar and conversational skills. They take a placement test to determine which course level they will start with, and each level takes 3 months to complete. At the end of each level, students will need to take the level test again to see how they've progressed in speaking, listening, and reading. If you have passed satisfactorily, you will move on to the next level. Once you have completed the highest level (Level 5), you will receive a certificate of completion proving that you have completed the ESL program at AELS.

Reading, Writing, Grammar

AELS conducts reading and writing activities at each level. Students will become more familiar with English sentence structure and will be able to read easily and expand their vocabulary through the level-appropriate reading passages. The writing activities will allow them to write their own sentences starting with simple sentences and progressing to formatted essays. In addition, students will learn many English idioms through this process and will be able to use complex grammar rules, which will help them to speak English accurately and more naturally.

Conversation

AELS offers a variety of thematic and contextual conversation activities to practice speaking and listening skills that are used in real life. All classes focus on conversations between instructors and students. Instructors maximize learning efficiency by giving prompt feedback through constant dialogue with the students and correction of pronunciation and word choice. Through this process, students will practice speaking confidently and gain more listening practice through constant conversation. This is only possible with a small number of students in each class, something that AELS is proud to offer.

Since 2008, American English Language School has maintained an upstanding reputation of helping students reach a high level of English proficiency. As a result, we have formed special agreements called Memorandums of Understanding with accredited colleges and universities across the U.S. which allow us to set up a College Pathway Program for international students who hope to continue their education in America after completing our ESL program.

These agreements allow students who have completed Level 5 of our ESL program (the highest of 6 levels) to be accepted to these schools without taking the TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test. These colleges and universities may also issue a Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLA) to students planning on attending their school upon completing our ESL program. Schools accept these Level 5 students because they recognize the completion of our ESL program to be equivalent or superior to scoring a passing grade on the TOEFL in order to transfer to their college.

Students attend American English Language School for much less money than most college ESL programs and get a more personalized and in-depth English learning experience. Enroll in our intensive English classes to improve your English more quickly, and you will be GUARANTEED admission to any college or university in our list of partner schools! Transferring to college as an international student has never been easier and stress-free!

Amazing English Program!

I was looking for a program that would help me improve my English skills. I knew that it would take a lot of work; however, I also needed guidance to ensure that I was focusing on my weaknesses. I came to American English Language School and was immediately greeted by friendly faculty. They understood what I was looking for in an English class and was able to accommodate my learning needs. My instructors are very knowledgeable and answer any questions I have.
One of my biggest concerns was speaking. My instructor was aware of this and provided me with daily practice and tools to help me improve.

I highly recommend American English Language School!
