About Royal Canadian Institute of International Studies

Since 1999, Royal Canadian Institute of International Studies (RCIIS) has been helping students from around the world learn English in a welcoming and a supportive environment. RCIIS offers various English programs for beginner to advanced level students to match the needs of every student. Our teachers create a fun learning atmosphere while assisting students with any weakness that they have. Counsellors at RCIIS are friendly and approachable and they work closely with students to design a pathway to reach study goals.

Our ESL programs focus more on speaking skills. Our programs can be categorized as:

Contemporary Issues (ADCI), Afternoon Speaking Program
- Stage Technique Accent Reduction Program: Accent Reduction + Drama (STAR)

- Business achievements: Business Communication (BC) ; Café English (CAFÉ) and
Social Networking English (SNE)


RCIIS’s teaching philosophy “Learning by Doing” is designed to promote communication by preparing students to converse effectively inside and outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to speak and discuss in all of our classes to become confident in communicating with everyone. Students also get a chance to apply their learning when they are on trips or social events that are organized by the school.

RCIIS has classes that ensure a personalized learning experience for each student. The campus is spacious and bright with a Café setting in the lobby for students to enjoy their break time and relax when they aren’t in class. The school is based in a safe and environmentally friendly neighbourhood. It is very conveniently located about 3 minutes walking distance North from the Davisville subway station on the west side of Yonge Street. It is also very close to the Yonge and Eglinton, funnily enough characterized as “Yonge and Eligible”. The nearby amenities are mainly centered for specific activities such as places to eat, shopping and many more.

This 12 week course is designed to offer more opportunities to adult learners to develop all four skills optimally, focusing both on accuracy and fluency. It has been established to provide students with vocabulary and grammatical structures required for everyday life, via utilizing the latest teaching methodology in a fun-filled atmosphere. This successful multi -skill syllabus integrates functions with forms.

The English for Academic Purpose program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in the Canadian post-secondary environment. This program will educate international students with not only the language skills, but also academic and life skills necessary to succeed in a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Business English

This course is for students aged: 16-70

Levels: Intermediate

The Business Communication program is an intensive educational program requiring a minimum of 8 weeks and up to 16 weeks. This program offers students the opportunity to learn, comprehend and apply business English concepts and vocabulary. The purpose of this program is to introduce students to the basic topics needed for the business environment. Some topics include, the business environment, employment, marketing, and finance.

The course deals with examining issues in terms instruction, discussion, debate and critical analysis. Business English communicative skills are developed through both individual and group exercises including: daily group discussions, vocabulary exercises, listening exercises, reading and comprehension exercises, case studies, projects and assignments. Team work is also major component in this class because students need to be able to develop this skill to use it in a workplace.
