About Interactive English Language School
Interactive English Language School is a family run, British Council accredited school in the heart of Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom. Just 50 minutes away from London but based on the seaside, it makes a perfect location both for studies and holiday. Our school is located on the main bus route and very close to all local amenities. A 20 min walk will take you to the centre of Brighton and award winning beaches are just down the road. Our friendly English language school has about 150 students of all ages from 18 to 74, from over 30 different countries.
If you want to travel to Brighton & Hove, or are already here, and you want to study English Language in a warm friendly atmosphere and still get the highest quality tuition, then we think that Interactive English is for you. We are a small friendly school, owned by a teacher and run for the students.
Being a small school means that we can cater for your individual needs more easily than larger schools can. All of our teachers are native speakers, qualified and experienced, and we use the highest quality course books and materials. Our prices are very affordable and start from £60 per week for full time courses of 20 lessons.
Our students are multinational, so you can usually find someone who speaks your language when you want to, but you can always find someone who doesn’t speak your language when you want to practise your English.
As well as General English courses, we also offer IELTS, CAE and FCE exam preparation courses.

All of our full-time courses consist of at least 15 hours per week classroom time with 10 hours per week of home study. All classes are conducted by qualified teachers using the most up to date materials and methods, and are focused on the needs and abilities of the students as individuals as well as a group. Because the classes are small, the maximum number of students is 15, but on average 9, all students have a good deal of individual attention and plenty of opportunity to practice their speaking in class.
Course intensity varies from 15 to 30 lessons per week to give you the opportunity to choose a course that perfectly suits your learning needs and daily routine.
We offer following General English courses:
ELEMENTARY:
This course is for students who have a very low, basic knowledge of the English language. The courses focus on grammar, reading, as well as speaking and writing about everyday topics.
These courses are for students who don’t have fluency in English, problems with basic grammar and little or no confidence in using English.
By the end of the General English – Elementary course, you will be able to:
Reading: Understand short texts in simple language and find specific information in timetables, menus and advertisements.
Writing: Fill in forms with personal details; write short notes and messages, holiday postcards and simple personal letters.

Listening: Understand basic personal information and information about the local area, e.g. shopping, travel and employment. To understand main points of clear simple messages and announcements.
Speaking: Ask and answer simple questions on familiar topics. To describe the place where you live, family members and people you know. To talk simply about education and jobs.
We would expect a student to take about 12 weeks to complete this level.
PRE INTERMEDIATE:
This course is for students who have a basic knowledge of the English language. The courses focus on grammar, reading, as well as speaking and writing about everyday topics.
These courses are for students who have some fluency in English, but who still have problems with basic grammar and little confidence in using English.
By the end of the General English – Pre-Intermediate course, you will be able to:
understand and respond to questions about yourself and your life
understand and respond to the main points of general conversations
understand standard speech spoken at near normal speed
read and understand basic public notices
understand simple articles and messages about everyday life
speak clearly about yourself so that others usually understand you
show that you understand others or ask them for explanations
maintain a basic conversation with only a little difficulty
write basic messages to others with correct grammar.
We would expect a student to take about 12 weeks to complete this level.
INTERMEDIATE:
This is for students who have a good knowledge of the English language. The courses focus on grammar, reading, speaking, writing and helping students to speak with more confidence.
These courses are for students whose English allows them to communicate with others quite well much of the time, but who still make frequent mistakes so that there are regular misunderstandings.
By the end of the General English – Intermediate course, you will be able to:
talk easily with others in common social situations
speak clearly enough to be easily understood by others
exchange opinions with others and justify your point of view
read and understand the main points of authentic written material
summarise texts using English that is easily understood by others
write in simple correct English in a variety of formats
understand and use with confidence the vocabulary of daily social life.
We would expect a student to take about 12 weeks to complete this level.
UPPER INTERMEDIATE:
The course is 15 hours of lessons a week, and is aimed at students who have a very good knowledge of the English language. The courses focus on grammar, reading, speaking, writing and helping students to speak with more confidence.
By the end of the General English – Upper-Intermediate course, you will be able to:
write various text types
read, understand and answer questions on the content of various text types
answer different types of grammar questions with confidence
handle the various sections of the oral test with confidence
understand English spoken by native speakers at natural speed and answer questions as required by the examination

The course is 15 hours of lessons a week. Leading to the Cambridge First Certificate in English, this course teaches and practises English in the context of the five exam papers- Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking. This course is for adult students who are at an upper–intermediate to advanced level, and who now wish to focus on increasing their accuracy and general competence in English and to prepare for an externally validated examination – the Cambridge First Certificate in English.
By the end of the FCE – Exam Preparation course you will be able to:
write various text types appropriate for the examination
read, understand and answer questions on the content of various text types
answer different types of grammar questions with confidence
handle the various sections of the oral test with confidence
understand English spoken by native speakers at natural speed and answer questions as required by the examination.
Cambridge ESOL are the world’s leading range of certificates for learners of English. Each year, they are taken by over 1.75 million people, in 135 countries and are widely recognised for work and study purposes. The exams are linked to the Common European Framework, published by the Council of Europe. Cambridge ESOL provides a Special Arrangements service, for example for candidates with learning difficulties, hearing difficulties or visual difficulties. Cambridge ESOL exams are: FCE and BEC amongst others.
CAE EXAM PREPARATION
The course is 15 hours of lessons a week. Leading to the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, this course teaches and practises English in the context of the five exam papers: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking. It is for students who are preparing for the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) examination.

read and interpret academic texts
answer comprehension questions on written texts as found in the IELTS examination
identify specific information and infer point of view in written texts
take part in discussions and practise the speaking skills required in the IELTS examination
perform with confidence in the oral component of the examination
take accurate notes from a spoken text or dialogue
listen to a variety of spoken text types of the kind used in IELTS examination.
If you want to study at university in the UK, you will almost certainly need to take the IELTS exam in order to show that you have the necessary level of English, you may also need to take the exam to show your level of English if you intend to live permanently in an English speaking country.
