About Centro Culturale Giacomo Puccini

Founded in 1988 the Italian language school located in Tuscany, Viareggio at the seaside, offers a wide range of different Italian language programs from the popular standard language course to individual tuition. The Italian courses are conceived with the idea of combining a beautiful holiday with a study vacation; a challenging program of study and some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy close to some of the most important historical cities in the world. Accommodation can be arranged in apartments, pensions and hotels.

The school is located in a two-story building right across from a traffic-free park in the center of Viareggio and contains the following facilities: 9 large classrooms, TV room, reception area, internet points (free of charge), lounge area, coffee-machine, drinks and snacks area, information point about Viareggio and Tuscany, an outdoor terrace, gazebo, and a small garden; the school is accessible by wheelchair.

Weekly Hours: General 15-25 hrs/wk

The standard Italian course is offered as a group course for all levels. This is the most popular course and it is ideal for the majority of the students. The classes cover all aspects of the Italian language.
The course has a duration of one week and consists of 20 hours (45 minutes each) of group course per week, 4 hours of tuition daily from Monday to Friday.

Working in small groups (average 8, max 12 people), students will quickly make progress in Italian. Special emphasis is placed on speaking and interacting in Italian.

The basic text and exercise books have been developed by our school. These books are used in conjunction with authentic teaching materials such as newspaper and magazine articles, audiovisual materials, and activities inside the classroom.

The Firenze Diploma Examination Courses prepare for the following exams and levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
DELI-A2 (basic level)
DILI-B1 (intermediate level)
DILC-B1
DILS/DILI-B
DALI-C1 (advanced level)
DALIC-C1 (diploma of business language, advanced level)

- 80 lessons of standard language course and 40 lessons of examination preparation
- 120 lessons in 4 weeks
- examination fee included in the course price
- recognized as Bildungsurlaub

The specific preparatory courses always start one month before the examination dates and consist of 4 lessons daily of grammar review and conversation in the morning plus 2 lessons of test taking strategies and examination drills in the afternoon. On request we can send you our entry test to check your knowledge of the language and to establish the time necessary to prepare yourself for the different exams.

The Italian Academic Year "Gap Year" consists of 32 weeks of study, a total of 650 lessons which include 480 lessons of the standard language course, 80 lessons of exam preparation and 80 academic lessons (Italian civilization and history, art history, business Italian, history of Italian fashion and design). The remaining 10 hours consist of final research; there are 10 contact hours of tutoring.

Students can take part in the weekly cultural and social activities organized by the school.

This course consists of three elements:

1) Linguistic element:
480 lessons of the standard language course
80 lessons of preparation for the two Diploma «Firenze» AIL exams DILI (intermediate level) and DALI (advanced level)

2) Academic element (80 lessons):
Italian Civilization and History
Art History
Business Italian
History of Design and Architecture
Introduction to Italian Gastronomy

3) Private tutoring (10 lessons):
to prepare your essay

The Academic School Year is a 32 week language and culture course for students who wish to experience living and studying in Italy. The course combines not only language courses with Italian culture classes at the Centro Puccini but the syllabus also incorporates the fundamental elements of level C2 of the European Language Portfolio. All in all, the course offers students the opportunity to see at first hand the various aspects of Italy’s rich history and culture.
