Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor)

This iconic monument is a must-see for everyone visiting Berlin. It was built in 1791 as the royal gate of the city. It’s built in neoclassical style and is decorated with an impressive gold four-horse chariot carrying goddess of peace – Eirene.

Reichstag

Just one block away from the gate you can find the home of the German parliament (Bundestag) – the Reichstag building. You can take a free elevator ride to the top terrace and enjoy a spectacular view of the city.

Museum Island (Museumsinsel)

Musuem Island is a collection of 5 renowned museums located on the Spree river in the centre of Berlin. Pergamonmuseum, Bodemuseum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie and Altes Museum have collectively earned the Unesco World Heritage status. It’s a wonderful experience just to walk around and admire the architecture, which you can do for free.

Berliner Dom – Berlin cathedral

This is the largest church in Berlin and is located on the Museum Island as well. It is not technically a cathedral, as it has never been the seat of a bishop. This, now, Neo-Renaissance building, is definitely worth to see on the outside and the inside.

East Side Gallery

This over 1km long part of the Berlin Wall is an international freedom memorial. Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall artists turned it into a manifest of freedom using murals. One of the more popular slogans written on the wall reads: No more wars. No more walls. A united world.

Schloss Charlottenburg (Charlottenburg Palace)

This spectacular building is the largest palace in Berlin. There is an entrance fee to the palace itself, but you can roam around the grounds and gardens for free and of course admire the greatness of the impressive building.

Checkpoint Charlie

This name was given by the Western Allies to this most-known Berlin Wall crossing point. It was located in the part of the city occupied by Americans and only foreigners were allowed to cross it. The original guardhouse is now at the Allied Museum, while a replica stands in its place.

Holocaust Memorial

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is a field of 2711 concrete pillars of different heights and it’s a place for remembering people of the Holocaust.

Siegessäule (the Berlin Victory Column)

This monument is a major tourist attraction. It’s total height is almost 70 meters. There is an entrance fee to climb to the top and get a view of the city, but admiring the monument from the bottom will be a great experience as well.
