For more than 50 years, Lethbridge College has been offering both career training and academic programs that transfer to degree programs at other institutions. English as a Second Language (ESL) has been an important part of College programming since 1970. We are located in Lethbridge, Alberta, two hours south of Calgary and one hour east of the Rocky Mountains. Our campus is 10 minutes from the city centre and five minutes from the Lethbridge airport. Lethbridge has mild Canadian weather and is one of the sunniest cities in Canada. It is a safe, friendly community of 100,000 residents and offers all the services of a large city. Lethbridge College offers more than 40 certificate, diploma and applied degree programs, computer and science labs, fitness and recreation facilities, library and food services, on-campus housing and homestay placement services. Our academic areas of study include Computer Information Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Renewable Resource Managment, Business Administration and Agriculture Technology, among many others. Our English Language Centre supports learners through Academic ESL. Classes are offered year-round at all levels to small classes. Students may enrol at almost any point during the semester.

The field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language involves teaching English to non-English speakers outside of English-speaking countries. TEFL has grown dramatically into an interesting and exciting career as people around the world strive to become proficient in English - the international language of communication and information, education, business and trade, technology and travel.
This course will provide theories of language teaching and learning, techniques for teaching speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar and phonology communicatively.
Entry Requirements: Successful teachers must be capable of using English well so proficiency equivalent to TOEFL 500 or higher is required. At the minimum, applicants must be high school graduates.
