I moved to Beijing and was there from the summer of 2015 to summer 2016 to learn Chinese for a year. I got help applying for the program through Go Abroad China; they always spoke to me and my mom and explained a lot of things that I didn’t understand in the beginning.
I didn’t live too far from Wudaokou, that’s where BLCU is. At BLCU, I had many classmates, some were exchange students, others were learning Chinese just like me. Everyday in class we were always told to speak Chinese to each other. My main teacher was Ms Zhang and she taught grammar and oral lessons.
During the weekends I would usually relax with my friends, sometimes the people at Go Abroad China would invite us to go and do something together. The staff from GAC that I met were really pleasant and spoke English well. I actually met several other people during this time and we are still in contact. My Chinese has improved a lot after learning for one year.

I went to china and attended the Chinese language program at PKU through GAC. it was enriching and entertaining,I was taught so many things just through this program.They took me through each and every course and my mandarin speaking level increased. With the cultural activities and trips GAC provided I was able to be immersed into the Chinese culture and fall in love with its history. I now know how to prepare the Chinese delicacies and read the early morning Chinese newspaper on the subway.This program was not only about simply learning mandarin but it helped me develop my inter-personal and professional skills.It also helped me to understand and experience the Chinese culture. It was in all honesty the most beautiful experience of my life.

The classes at BLCU were so engaging everyday I came to class I was so happy and eager to increase my knowledge of mandarin. Though at the start it seemed like an impossible task, but the satisfaction of learning new words each day and understanding the Beijing dialect made it an rewarding experience. GAC was really supportive and provided me with a life changing experience in China. GAC organised so many trips, I got to see life action chinese movies, acrobatics and participated in cultural activities. Now I'm back home, i really miss China and I would love to visit China again.
