Located in the heart of Dublin's cultural quarter in Temple Bar, the English School at IBAT College Dublin offers English language tuition to multinational groups with rich cultural diversity and provides the perfect environment in which to enjoy improving your English skills while learning about Irish culture. At IBAT College Dublin students are guided, supported and mentored throughout their entire learning experience. Our teachers have significant experience teaching English as a foreign language in Ireland as well as overseas. There is also more to the English Language learning experience than just the classroom. As part of your programme you will be invited to partake in a wide range of social activities each month in Dublin and throughout the island of Ireland.
Students seeking a general qualification as a proof of language proficiency may opt for one of our general Cambridge exam programmes.
These are among the most popular and widely-recognised English examinations in the world, accepted by both employers and many educational institutions alike. An advanced level of English is required to join the CAE programme (CEFR B2/C1 or equivalent).
Teachers use a personal approach to ensure that students develop at their own pace, while focusing on the key elements of language learning such as grammar, vocabulary, receptive, productive skills and basic practical language functions, such as:
Dealing with daily problems and life situations:
Going to the bank and opening an account
Asking for directions
Visiting a doctor/dentist and describing symptoms
Letter-writing skills - cover letters, complaint letters, emails etc
Curriculum Vitae - structure and content
Classes also include specifically designed cultural lessons which focus on different aspects of Irish culture. Some of these lessons are also linked to trips which are taken during class-time to museums and historical areas around the city.
For students who may be finding it difficult to keep up in class or who might just wish to focus more on certain grammar points, extra help is available one day every week when students can sit with a teacher and work on particular areas in more detail.
A programme can be scheduled between the teacher and the student and homework may also be given to ensure that the student gets as much practice as possible.
Special attention is placed on pronunciation from the early stages, with particular stress on individual sounds and specific problem areas for students of varying language backgrounds.
Through our years of experience of teaching multinational groups, here in Ireland and abroad, coupled with the fact that all of our teachers have a working knowledge of at least one other foreign language, we place a lot of emphasis on dealing with translation and pronunciation issues experienced by students from certain countries.
