Our school is located right in the centre of Harrogate, a picturesque spa town in North Yorkshire, England. Harrogate has a lot to offer to its visitors - from gardens to castles, adventure centres to art galleries, cafes and restaurants including the famous Bettys Tea Room, there is something for every taste and interest, every hobby and passion.
The Standard General English Course (20 lessons a week) takes place every morning from Monday to Friday (09.30 - 13.00), leaving you free every afternoon to join the Social Programme or study with our Self-Access resources. Your morning lessons are divided into two parts (09.30 - 11.00 and 11.30 -13.00) and you will usually be taught by two different teachers.
Every week your teachers will plan a scheme of work based on our Curriculum Framework, CEF (Common European Framework) Can-do Statements, the course book and your needs. We focus on all four skills, speaking and listening, reading and writing, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Learning objectives for the week are set and shared with students on Monday morning. These objectives are reviewed again at the end of each week. You will also have regular progress tests to help you review your learning and measure your progress. In addition, you'll have monthly tutorials with your main teacher where you can discuss progress and needs in more detail.
If you plan to go to university in either Ireland or the UK then you need to take the IELTS examination. CES will help you achieve your goal. IELTS is the most widely recognised university entry requirement in Europe. Most universities require a level of between 5.5 and 7.5. CES Harrogate is the only IELTS test centre in the Leeds area, meaning you can also sit the exam with us.
