The UCL Centre for Languages & International Education offers full and part-time English for Academic Purposes and foundation courses for international students as well as foreign language courses to UCL students, staff and London’s wider academic and professional community. UCL is one of the top two universities in the UK for the number of professors, which means that our students are taught by the most highly qualified experts in their field.
The course aims to further develop awareness and use of the conventions of academic English among students from other learning cultures. More specifically the course will further develop reading and writing ability in a variety of academic registers as well as developing listening and speaking skills through lectures, seminars and presentations within a university context. In doing so, we aim to help advance the ability to perform in all four skills related to students’ own degree programmes.
The Summer / Spring English Courses for International University Students present a unique opportunity to experience student life at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Students receive high-quality language tuition and cultural input relevant to the interesting and exciting guided visits on offer. These courses focus on work in the classroom and visits to a variety of London attractions to develop students' English language and academic skills in key areas of speaking and listening, while expanding their vocabulary and improving their writing skills. Taught at UCL’s central London campus, in the centre of London, students have the opportunity to experience the cultural diversity of London life through classroom-based preparation, visits and feedback sessions to such places as the BBC, Tate Britain art gallery, East End of London and other places of significant cultural importance. These courses are suitable for university students, who are non-native English speakers, wishing to further develop their English Language skills and explore the rich diversity of London through work in the classroom and guided educational visits.
This initial teacher training course will help you acquire the skills you need if you plan to teach English abroad as part of your degree, or if you wish to teach English during the holidays or after you have finished your studies. The course also covers transferable skills such as team building, time management, presentation skills and cross-cultural awareness. On completion of the course, you will receive your module credit as part of you degree programme and a teaching certificate, validated by Cambridge English.
