Manchester is a university that answers life’s biggest questions. It’s a city with a passion for innovation and reinvention, setting the pace in industry, sport and the arts. We offer an education that will equip you for future success and inspire you to make a difference.
This full-time course is a combination of both general English (Core Modules) and areas of language specific to the student's personal, professional or academic needs. Students will be taught for 21 hours per week in classes of no more than 16 students. This pathway is designed for students wishing to progress to university study; we have an alternative English for personal and professional study pathway for other students.
Students on the two pathways will be taught together in their Core Modules and in some of the Target Module classes.
The Pre-sessional courses are designed to help you develop the academic skills you need to progress to a university foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate programme. If you have applied for a course at The University of Manchester but have not yet fully met the English language requirement for your academic course you may be eligible to study a Pre-sessional course in order to meet those requirements.
Pre-sessional courses last for between 3 and 20 weeks and focus on improving your academic English. All our courses cover areas such as academic writing, note-taking and presentation skills. The length of course you will be required to take will be determined by the academic School to which you have applied, with advice from the ULC.
