This course focuses on the nature, acquisition, origins, and use of the English language. It explores the fundamental questions of what language is and how it relates to the other human faculties. In answering these questions, you will study English as a cultural, social and psychological phenomenon.
This course will give you the skills and specialist knowledge required to analyse the English language from different perspectives: how it is structured and acquired, how it varies across speakers and geographic regions, how it influences the way in which we communicate with others and think about the world, and how it is used in context.
Salford Languages offers a number of short courses to help you improve your academic English to enable you to participate effectively in an academic setting and succeed in your studies. Our tailored and professional tutoring is free of charge and open to all students – whether you are a non-native English speaker or just want some extra support with your academic English skills or written communication in academic contexts.
This is a full-time English language course for international students with an IELTS level of 4.0 or above. It is designed to improve your four skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and has a specific focus improving English for Academic Purposes.
You will also gain valuable experience of studying at a UK university, and familiarising yourself with British culture before you start an academic course at the University of Salford.
If you successfully complete the English Study Programme, the University of Salford will accept this as evidence of your English language ability in place of an IELTS certificate.
This full-time English language course is suitable if you are coming to Salford as an international student and your English is of a pre-intermediate standard or higher. The course runs for 15 weeks over the summer and will equip you to study at Salford at a foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate level.
This course will give you an excellent grounding in the central areas of linguistics and includes a foundation in applied language study. You will also focus on the practical and theoretical aspects of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
