This course is for students aged: 14-17

Levels: Intermediate

Weekly Hours: General 15-25 hrs/wk

Class Sizes: Large, 11-20 students

Our Junior ESL summer program is designed for students aged 14 to 17 years old to learn English in New York. It is an immersion program including general English lessons, full board accommodation in shared rooms in host families, as well as a full program of supervised activities and excursions.

The English lessons takes place at St Francis College, located in the heart of Brooklyn Heights, 2 minutes' walk from our year-round English Language school. Facilities at the college include bright and spacious classrooms and a cafeteria where students can have lunch on weekdays before heading out to their afternoon activities. There are 3 subway stations and 8 subway lines accessible within a 3-minute walk.

The course includes 20 lessons (= 15 hours) of general English per week taking place Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 12.45pm. Our teachers are qualified, experienced and use an action-based, communicative method to encourage students to interact and use the language as much as possible, both in and out of class. There is a maximum of 15 students per class, grouped together according to level. Course materials are included (teachers use textbooks as well as authentic materials such as magazines, newspapers articles...)

Our activity program is designed to include the best of New York City and alternate between fun and educational outings. There are 5 half-day excursions and 1 full-day excursion per week (except the last week when Saturday is departure day).

Students stay in twin rooms with another BSL student of the same gender but different nationality, and share the bathroom with the family members. Breakfast is included at home every morning, then students make their way to school together by public transport. They also get back home together by public transport in the evenings. Lunches will be at St Francis College on weekdays, and a packed lunch will be prepared for the Saturday excursion. Dinner is taken at home with the family everyday (except on Friday night if dinner is part of the goodbye party).

With BSL you feel at home!

I've spent 12 weeks at the BSL and it was the best choiche I had made! The best thing about the school is that it's not huge and crowded, but you have a cozy, modern open-space that welcome you everyday. You feel at home and you can know every single student of the school, not just the one in your class! The view from the school is wonderful (you can see downtown Manhattan and the Liberty Statue) and you also have a little kitchen with the necessary furniture.
The staff of BSL is AWESOME, no doubt on that, they are friendly and helpful with any kind of problem, request or recommendation you ask for.
On the top of that, I loved the teaching style of most of the teachers of the school because it's very interactive and mainly focused on conversation and discussion (which is the best way to learn English!).
I could't ask for something better than that in NYC!

Best choice of the year

It's the first time I visited a Language School and it's the first time I visited NYC. In conclusion I can say: It was the best decision I could make!

Brooklyn School Of Languages is highly recommendable, I improved my English skills and was able to do my level-up test to “Advanced Speaker” after 4 weeks. Time flew by too fast and I definitely visit the school again next year.

In class, we had great conversations and worked on really interesting topics. The teachers gave us a warm welcome and guided us through all grammar and vocab troubles. The staff was patient and helpful at all times. In addition to that, the school offered great activities during summer and made us enjoy the city.

Great time at BSL

I can highly recommend the school. It is perfect located in Brooklyn Heights with a breathtaking view of Manhatten. The teachers are awesome as well the rest of the team. I stayed in the student house in Crown Heights. It is located near Franklin Avenue where you can find many cute bars and restaurants. It was a pleasure sharing this experience with students from all over the world. I will come back someday!

beautiful experience

I recommend this school because the atmosphere is very familiar, is quite easy to get along with teachers and other students. The courses are well structured so you can improve both you writing and speaking skills. The location is beautiful, so straight after the lesson, in a couple of minutes, you can visit the city centre. The activities are a good opportunity to do things you probably won't do by your own.
