About University of Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsburgh was founded in 1787 and is one of the oldest institutions of Higher Education in the United States. It is ranked among a small group of the Top 7 Public Research Universities by the Center for Measuring University Performance. It has five campuses and enrolls approximately 30,000 students. (Approximately 20,000 study at the main Pittsburgh campus.) The English Language Institute (ELI) was established in 1964. The ELI is a member of UCIEP and AAIEP. It is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. The Intensive English Program provides language and cultural studies for people interested in improving their English ability as well as academic orientation for students desiring to attend a university in the United States. Regular intensive programs begin in late August, early January, and early May and last approximately 14 weeks. The ELI has three levels of instruction: Low Intermediate, High Intermediate and Advanced. We do not have classes for beginners. We offer special pre-professional and/or language and culture programs in the summer that last 5 weeks and begin late-June or early-July. We are able to offer special summer TESOL training courses for in-service teachers. Special programs can be arranged by request.
