Students who desire to improve their ability to use the English language come to the Intensive English Program on the beautiful and safe downtown campus in Lincoln, the capital city of Nebraska. The Intensive English Program offers 25+ hours of instruction per week for improvement in all areas (Listening Comprehension, Speaking and Pronunciation, Reading Comprehension, Academic Writing, and Usage). Students are tested and placed into their proper level (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) and they are re-tested and moved up every 8 weeks (the IEP has five 8-week sessions per year beginning in August, October, January, March, and May, and one summer 4-week program, July). Upon completion of the IEP students will be able to: 1) understand university lectures and take lecture notes; 2) participate in class discussions; 3) read university-level texts in a variety of subjects; 4) give clear and accurate oral presentations; and 5) write papers in English for class assignments. IEP students enjoy the many excellent recreation facilities on the campus as well as walking, hiking and biking trails throughout the city. Students participate in IEP activities including educational trips to museums and galleries, world famous Omaha Zoo, and other locations as well as fun trips to the park for picnics, volleyball and baseball.
