End of year English examination at an appropriate level – Cambridge English KET/PET and IGCSE Maths and/or Art and/or Core Science (depending on age and level)
To help students at this level to get the most out of their academic studies, an EAL teacher will accompany them into their Core Science lessons to assist the Science teacher in making sure that students are not held back by their level of English. We have found that this inter-departmental approach enables students to make faster progress.
The EAL Department delivers the IELTS preparation course as a one or two year course for all A level and Business Foundation students. Business Foundation students will follow a one year course with 4 hours of tuition per week and A level students will follow a two year course with at least 5 hours of tuition per week. The focus is on the four essential skills tested by the IELTS examiners of reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as familiarising students with the exam format, expectations and criteria.
Exams: IELTS external examination in final term (or earlier if required)
