Language Foundations
The Language Foundations program is a non-degree program intended to support non-native English speakers working toward the advanced English language proficiency required to be successful in undergraduate coursework at Marylhurst University. This complete program is four quarters in length. Each quarter, students take one language support course offered by Pacific International Academy (PIA) and three select Marylhurst undergraduate courses. The language support courses provide university success strategies and personal language development intended to prepare students for the linguistic and academic rigor of undergraduate coursework. Each quarter, the support course focuses on a different language-learning area: reading in fall, speaking and listening in winter, writing in spring, and grammar and vocabulary in summer.
