About LADO International Institute - Intensive English Courses

In 1960, Dr. Lado founded the Georgetown University School of Languages and Linguistics, where he served as Dean until 1973. In 1977, Dr. Lado retired from Georgetown University to open his own language school, LADO International College, which has grown to three centers in the United States: DC, VA and MD. Dr. Lado is the author of over 60 books and many articles on topics ranging from linguistics to language testing and cross-cultural understanding. LADO International Institute offers a variety of English programs suited to different lifestyles. All programs run year-round. LADO understands how important it is to place a student at a house that is safe, comfortable and convenient. We partner with local housing companies to provide comfortable housing for our students. Our homestay program was designed to make our students feel at home while they are away from home. Our students love the places where they stay. We run activities of all variety every month. We also partner with several American universities that offer conditional acceptance and waive the TOEFL or EILTS scores to LADO students who have successfully completed our program. LADO’s partner universities include Baldwin Wallace University, the University of New Mexico, Marymount University, Washington College and more. Many of our students have gone to these universities and are studying there for their bachelor's and master's degrees.

At LADO International Institute, our students learn using a unique methodology developed by Dr. Robert Lado. The Total Approach for teaching and learning English appeals to different learning styles and takes into consideration the native language, culture, and education of each student.
The Total Approach philosophy is divided into three phases which the students experience during their lesson:
Learning
During this phase, the students are introduced to the language and learn words and expressions naturally.
Assimilation
Following the Learning Phase, the students assimilate the target language through a variety of activities, experiences, and explanations.
Facilitation
In the final phase, the students develop facility with the language. During this phase, students are given the opportunity to practice and produce the language in a real-life context.
