Institut Monte Rosa is an international co-educational boarding-school. Founded in 1874, its main aim is to prepare students for university entrance, hence the academic program of the Anglo-American Section is strongly college preparatory. Students planning to attend American universities are prepared for College Board examinations and receive the High School Diploma on successful completion of the 12th grade. Specially designed courses are available for entry to business or other colleges. Admission is based on previous academic records, together with a personal recommendation from the Headmaster or Principal of the previous school and, if thought necessary, a short entrance examination. The 'Language & Ski Course' offers students the possibility of taking courses in English, French and/or German language. In the afternoons and on Sundays, there are skiing and snowboarding excursions and alternative activities subject to weather conditions. The 'Summer Vacation Course' offers four foreign language classes five mornings per week, with a choice of English, French and/or German. In addition, conversation sessions are held twice a week, after lunch. The afternoons are spent doing various sports such as football, basketball, tennis, swimming, water-skiing, rafting, horseback-riding, and half-day or full-day excursions to different places of particular interest.
