HISTORY
Hancock International College was established to provide quality education at affordable prices for students wishing to enter the fast growing instruction of English as a Second Language. While some schools only teach theoretical concepts, both students and Universities demand knowledge of the practical elements of the English language today. Hancock International College first opened its doors in Irvine, California in 2011. HIC has fostered the development of its Intensive ESL courses for all levels of English Language Learners, offering Intensive English courses for beginners to advanced speakers of ESL.
MISSION
The mission of Hancock International College is to provide a comprehensive educational program in English as a Second Language for international students who represent many different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The foundations of our program are instruction in grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We also provide international students exposure to American culture and history.
WHY HIC?
Whether your goal is to attend an American university in the United States or achieve professional success in your career, HIC’s IESL Program is designed to increase your proficiency with the English Language while gaining a greater understanding of the American culture.
For international students being in a foreign country can be very intimidating. HIC provides small and intimate classes in order for students to receive the best possible instruction.
HIC holds many activities throughout the year for students. Holiday parties (i.e. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.). HIC also prides itself on the end of the quarter cultural field trip where all students in every level can enjoy themselves and utilize the knowledge and education they received in their class. Cultural field trips may vary depending on the season.
HIC is located in southern California, with the best climate in the US. For international students, this is a great opportunity; once you are ready to transfer you can choose from hundreds of private and public universities in and out of the state of California. Once students have completed the HIC IESL Program, Hancock International College has fostered relationships with many universities making transferring even easier.
HIC FACULTY
The instructors at Hancock International College are highly qualified with worldwide experience spanning the globe. They have honed their skills in countries such as Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, the Republic of Georgia and Columbia. HIC instructors are well versed in many different cultures which enables them to understand the needs of international students.

The staff at Hancock International College provides a warm and welcoming learning environment for all students and their families. The HIC Staff are highly qualified and trained to assist students with any questions they may have during their time here at HIC.

IESL Course Descriptions:
Hancock International College offers 6 levels of the Intensive ESL (IESL) Program. The levels are as follows:
IESL 100 (Beginner): The goal of this course is to help students gain basic listening and speaking skills for everyday life; develop basic English vocabulary and literacy skills, and develop basic grammar and writing skills. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history.
IESL 101 (Beginner High): The goal of this course is to help students continue to gain basic listening and speaking skills for everyday life; continue developing basic English vocabulary and literacy skills, and continue developing basic grammar and writing skills necessary to produce paragraphs. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history.
IESL 102 (Intermediate Low): The goal of this course is to help students improve their listening and speaking skills for everyday life and begin to develop academic skills in listening and speaking, in addition to developing academic reading skills and vocabulary while adding to their basic reading skills and vocabulary knowledge, and continuing to add to basic grammar knowledge and the skills necessary to produce paragraphs. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history.
IESL 103 (Intermediate): The goal of this course is to help students continue developing their ability to hold a conversation and to develop an ability to comprehend, and discuss simple academic topics. Students begin to develop academic reading skills, to continue learning general vocabulary, and to begin to learn academic vocabulary. This course is to help students develop intermediate grammar skills and develop the skills to write short compositions.
IESL 104 (Intermediate High): The goal of this course is to help students at the high-intermediate level develop academic listening skills, develop speaking skills for personal and academic situations, develop academic reading and vocabulary skills, improve their use of grammar and develop basic academic writing skills. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history.
IESL 105 (Advanced): The goal of this course is to help students at the advanced level develop academic listening skills, develop speaking skills for personal and academic situations, develop academic reading and vocabulary skills, improve their use of grammar and develop academic writing skills. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history.

TOEFL iBT Preparation:
The goal of this course is to prepare students for the TOEFL iBT Exam. Incorporating listening, speaking, reading and writing, this course strengthens English language abilities while familiarizing students with the type of content, questions, and tasks expected from the TOEFL iBT. With focused, integrated practice to develop critical thinking and communicative competence. This course will prepare the students simultaneously for the test and college-level work.
Requirement: Placement into IESL 104 OR completion of IESL 103

INTENSIVE BUSINESS ENGLISH PROGRAM (IBE)
Intensive Business English are a series of courses for both business professionals and students of business who want to improve their English fundamentals. To communicate effectively in today’s workplace a focus on real-world business trends is necessary. These courses do just that, in addition to helping students develop grammatical accuracy, reading comprehension, authentic interview listening, realistic business communication and writing business documents. Cultivate these aspects of English proficiency, students will stand out and thrive in the business world.
IBE Course Descriptions: Hancock International College offers 5 levels of the Intensive Business English (IBE) Program, each course meets for 20 hours a week. The levels are as follows:
IBE 100: The goal of this course is to help students gain basic listening and speaking skills with a business influence; develop basic English vocabulary and literacy skills, and develop basic grammar and writing skills. This course also introduces students to business tasks and vocabulary. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history. Students will have 20 hours of class time per week.
IBE 101: The goal of this course is to help students continue to gain basic listening and speaking skills with a business influence; continue developing basic English vocabulary and literacy skills, and continue developing basic grammar and writing skills necessary to produce paragraphs for business purposes. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history. Students will have 20 hours of class time per week.
IBE 102: The goal of this course is to help students improve their listening and speaking skills for a business environment and begin to develop the necessary skills in listening and speaking for business communication. Students also continue to add to basic grammar and vocabulary knowledge and the skills necessary to produce composition for the workplace. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history. Students will have 20 hours of class time per week.
IBE 103: The goal of this course is to help students continue developing their ability to hold a conversation and develop an ability to comprehend and discuss topics related to business. Students begin to develop reading skills, and continue learning business vocabulary. This course is to help students develop intermediate grammar skills and develop the skills necessary to write business compositions. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history. Students will have 20 hours of class time per week.
IBE 104: The goal of this course is to help students at the high-intermediate level develop listening and speaking skills for business situations, develop reading and vocabulary skills, improve their use of grammar and further develop business writing skills. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history. Students will have 20 hours of class time per week.
IBE 105: The goal of this course is to help students at the advanced level develop listening and speaking skills for business situations, develop reading and vocabulary skills, improve their use of grammar and continue developing writing skills necessary for business. In addition, this course introduces students to American culture and history. Students will have 20 hours of class time per week.

Social and Cultural Research:
The goal of this course is to bring awareness to common cultural values held in the United States and other English speaking countries. Students will gain confidence through researching for oral presentations, and writing projects designed to build critical thinking and academic English skills while creating understanding of English speaking people, places, and historical events.
ESL PRACTICE:
The goal of this course is to help students develop communication skills to hold a conversation and to develop an ability to comprehend, and to discuss simple real life situations. Students are introduced to simple grammatical, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. This course is to help students develop a general vocabulary to use while being exposed to American Culture. ESL Practice is offered Monday through Friday from 1:30pm-2:30pm.
HIC students currently enrolled in the IESL or IBE Program are offered this course at no additional charge.

Hancock college is a place where I have a chance to interchange many interesting experiences with students, instructors, and staffs. I have so many wonderful things to say about HC but it is better to let them surprise you as you join their company.
