GENERAL ENGLISH GE15
The General English Course GE15 is a 15 hour per week module which runs Monday to Friday in the morning for three hours each day. This leaves you free for the remainder of the day to join the Social Activity Programme, study in our self access facilities or explore Cork and the surrounding areas.

The daily three hour lesson covers all of the English language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening. The main focus of the General English 15 hour course is on communication skills in real life settings.


GENERAL ENGLISH GE20
The General English Course GE20 is a 20 hour per week module which runs Monday to Friday in the morning for four hours each day. This leaves you free for the remainder of the day to join the Social Activity Programme, study in our self access facilities or explore Cork and the surrounding areas.

The daily four hour lesson covers all of the English language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening. The main focus of the General English 20 hour course is on communication skills in real life settings. GE20 programme students follow a separate syllabus to that of GE15 students which includes a separate range of topics.


GENERAL ENGLISH AFTERNOON
The General English Afternoon course is a 15 hour per week module which runs Monday to Friday 13.45 to 17.00 with a 15 minute break each day.

The daily three hour lesson covers all of the English language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening. The main focus of the General English 15 hour course is on communication skills in real life settings.


COMBINATION COURSE
The General English group English language courses GE20 or GE15 in the morning are supplemented with either 5, 10 or 15 hours of individual lessons in the afternoon. The group lessons in the morning covering all of the language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing are combined with additional one-to-one lessons giving the student the opportunity to focus in greater detail on their own particular needs and goals.

These programmes have been popular among those with specific areas of English language needs including Business English, Examination Preparation and English for Specific Purposes. Before planning your training we assess your professional language needs, your current level and your language skills gaps. Our experienced team will plan and build a course designed to help participants manage their specific language requirements.


SUMMERTIME AFTERNOON PACKAGE
A superb summertime package of Afternoon General English 15 hours per week Monday to Friday 13.45 to 17.00 (including 15 minute break) and a single ensuite room within a self- catering apartment only a short distance from the city centre.

The main focus of the General English 15 hour course is on communication skills in real life settings. The daily afternoon three hour lesson covers all of the language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening. We also look at aspects of Irish culture, including history, music and literature, information about places of historical, cultural or popular interest, sport and leisure activities and local/national festivals and celebrations.


ACADEMIC YEAR
Cork English Academy’s Academic Year Programmes, suitable for non EU students, have been approved for inclusion on the Register of Programmes recognised by the Minister of Education and Science. Programmes include 25 weeks tuition and the remaining part of the year as a vacation period. In accordance with immigration regulations all students must complete an official examination during their programme. Academic Year students will be granted a stay of 8 months.

The daily General English lessons covers all of the English language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening. The main focus of the General English courses is on communication skills in real life settings.


FAMILY PACKAGE

- Parents Programme
There is a choice for adults of the Family Package to enroll in either the 15 or 20 hour per week General English Course mornings. This leaves you free for the remainder of the day to explore Cork and the surrounding areas with your family, join the social and activities programme or study in our self access facilities.

The main focus of the General English programme is on communication skills in real life settings. The daily lessons covers all of the language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening.

- Kids Activity Camp (for ages 4 to 12)
The camp is held in the University College Cork Sports Arena, Mardyke Arena, Mardyke Walk, Western Road, Cork City. The majority of the kids attending are Irish.

Children are organised into small groups by age and are assigned a specialised group leader who helps them throughout the week. Groups follow a daily schedule that includes up to 8 activities per day. Activities vary on a daily basis with the emphasis on fun and development in a safe and encouraging environment.

IELTS PREPARATION
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to examine your ability to work, study, or live in an English speaking environment. This IELTS Preparation programme consists of 5 hours afternoon add-on tuition. It is suitable for students who are aiming to take the IELTS Academic Exam either while they are in Cork or at some time in the future. The afternoon classes are available as an add-on to students who are studying General English GE15 in the mornings.

Course consists on preparation for Academic Reading, Academic Writing, Listening, regularly timed examination practice as well as preparation and practice for speaking exam. We also offer additional practice in areas of weakness for homework.


FCE
This FCE Preparation programme consists of 5 hours afternoon add-on tuition. It is suitable for students who are aiming to take the FCE Exam either while they are in Cork or at some time in the future. The afternoon classes are available as an add-on to students who are studying General English GE15 in the mornings.

Course consists on preparation for Reading, Writing, Listening and Use of English papers with regular timed examination practice as well as preparation and practice for speaking exam. The accelerated four-week programme covers all four skills and pays particular attention to grammar and lexical areas commonly tested in the exam. We also offer additional practice in areas of weakness for homework.

Business English

BUSINESS ENGLISH
The Business English programme is designed to improve your everyday spoken and written English and to promote fluency in business communication. The programme is offered as a 5 hour Afternoon Add-on to students who are studying General English GE15 in the mornings.

The afternoon lessons add to the morning General English lessons by having students take part in simulated business situations such as making presentations, taking part in conference calls, meetings and negotiations.

WORK PLACEMENT
This programme is ideal for students who want to improve their communication skills in General English classes in the first part of their programme and consolidate those skills by undertaking a Work Placement in the second part. Students take a combination of English tuition and an unpaid Work Experience with a minimum total of 2 weeks English classes and 4 weeks Work Experience. Students are placed by our experienced partner coordinator, where possible, in an Irish enterprise appropriate to their qualifications and experience.

INDIVIDUAL TUITION GE121
One-to-One English language training is designed to provide the maximum progress in the time you have available by tailoring the English language course content to your specific needs. The number of lessons you take will depend on your individual goals. You can start your One-to-One course on any day from Monday to Friday.

Before planning your English language course we assess your language needs, your starting level and English language skills gaps. Once we have identified your course objectives a tailor made English language course is designed for you. Topics of special interest can be incorporated into your training programme or we can help you to achieve a specific objective. The lessons can include modules which cover all of the English language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on those skills which are most important to you.
