The English Language Institute offers specially designed English language courses that help students achieve their academic and professional goals. The curriculum emphasizes intensive language learning in all areas of English as a Second Language (ESL) including grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary, speaking, listening and pronunciation. The English Language Institute features small class sizes with attention to individual student needs. Our courses are led by instructors with master’s degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and international teaching experience. Students in the English Language Institute receive 20 hours of instruction each week, year-round with the opportunity to attend optional afternoon workshops led by professional and supportive staff.

The English Language Institute offers specially designed English language courses that help students achieve their academic and professional goals. The curriculum emphasizes intensive language learning in all areas of English as a Second Language (ESL) including grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary, speaking, listening and pronunciation.

The English Language Institute features small class sizes with attention to individual student needs. Our courses are led by instructors with master’s degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and international teaching experience. Students in the English Language Institute receive 20 hours of instruction each week, year-round with the opportunity to attend optional afternoon workshops led by professional and supportive staff.

Students in Level 7 have the option of substituting up to two English Language Institute classes for other California State University, Sacramento courses . No additional tuition fee is required for this privilege. If you participate, you will receive semester-based special session academic credit, which may be transferable if you decide to matriculate to an accredited college or university.

American Language and Culture
Certificate Program
The American Language and Culture Program is a four-week course of study at California State University, Sacramento. The program provides fun and engaging workshops, classes, cultural activities and field trips designed for individuals who want to improve their conversational English, learn about American culture and explore Sacramento and its surrounding region.

Open enrollment is available for the American Language and Culture program in the summer and winter months. Requirements/Eligibility:
Must be 18+ years of age
Must have a valid passport and email address (see online application)
Proof of own health insurance or purchase program approved monthly Wells Fargo health insurance
Desire to learn English and be open to new experiences!

Communicative English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction taught four days a week by caring and knowledgeable professionals with expertise in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) field
Small class sizes in order to allow for more personalized attention
Weekly opportunities to engage and converse with California State University, Sacramento students through organized activities
Interactive workshops and guest lectures related to American culture (topics include: “American Food and Restaurant Etiquette,” “Learning Language through Games” and “Intercultural Business Communications”)
Cultural visits in and around Sacramento, California and an outings to professional sports games
Full day field trips to local and regional places of interest within Northern California (sample field trips include San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and Redwood National Park)
Access to campus amenities including the WELL, campus shuttle transportation, the library and computer labs
Support throughout the program from Student Ambassadors
Transit pass to access all regional transit throughout the city (bus and light rail)
