Language certificates in Danish

There aren’t many persons who learn Danish. But that’s a mistake! Danish has a lot of advantages, like this one: If you understand Danish, it will be also easier for you to understand other north-european languages like Norwegian and Swedish. These languages have a lot of common ground.

In addition, Danish could help you to get your dream job or to get in touch with the world. But it doesn’t matter which goal you have, it is always important to have a certificate to establish proof of your language skills.

Language certificates in Danish

All in all, there are four language certificates: Prøve i Dansk 1, Prøve i Dansk 2, Prøve i Dansk 3 and Studieprøven.

But which certificate do you need?

That depends on your goals.

If you want to do the Danish citizenship test – also known as Infødretsprøve – you need the certificate Prøve i Dansk 3.

If you want to study at a Danish university, you need the certificate Studieprøven.

The language certificates in Danish are also part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Prøve i Dansk 1

The first language certificate corresponds to the level A2 of the CEFR. With this certificate you are able to conduct a conversation about daily life topics. So you can understand and use sentences which are common.

Prøve i Dansk 2

The second language certificate corresponds to the level B1 of the CEFR. With this certificate you have the proof that you are able to conduct conversations and to understands texts without problems. In addition, you can understand more sentences – providing that there is no accent.

Prøve i Dansk 3

The third language certificate proves that your language skills are good. It corresponds to the level B2 of the CEFR. With this certificate you are able to conduct conversations without problems. In addition, you can write textes and read more difficult ones.

All these three language certificates have the same structure: Reading and listening comprehension, a writing and a speaking part.

Studieprøven

The certificate Studieprøven certifies that your language skills are on a C1-level of the CEFR. With this certificate you are able to read and to understand original Danish literature, to conduct a conversation without problems and to use special expressions in your active lexis.
