Since 1965 the Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP) has provided the highest quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to individuals whose native language is not English (Mission Statement). TIEP has helped more than 30,000 students and professionals from 130 countries to achieve their goals. The program accepts individuals who are 17 years of age or older (except for customized group programs). TOEFL is not required for admission

The Foundations of English program is designed for ESL students with beginning to low-intermediate English proficiency as determined by the TIEP Placement Exam. The program provides 20 hours of classroom instruction per week.
The 4-week and 3-week sessions offered during the summer are self-contained, stand-alone courses that are separate from other Foundations of English courses offered throughout the year. These 4-week and 3-week courses have their own unique curriculum.
Students who register for the 4-week and 8-week sessions that begin in January may be placed in classes with students who register for the 16-week session that begins in January. Students who register for the 7-week session that begins in August may be placed in classes with students who register for the 15-week session in August.

For individuals with intermediate through advanced level English proficiency who want to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).This course focuses on both the TOEFL iBT and the paper-based Institutional TOEFL. Course goals are to provide extensive practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for the iBT; to offer systematic study of the test format in each of the test sections; and to teach successful test-taking strategies designed to improve TOEFL scores

The English for Academic Purposes program is designed for ESL students with intermediate to advanced English proficiency, particularly for those who plan to enter an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a U.S. college or university. All levels teach the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), as well as grammar, vocabulary, and study skills. The relative emphasis on each varies according to the level. The program provides 20 hours of classroom instruction per week.
Students who register for the 8-week sessions that begin in March and October may be placed in ongoing classes at the appropriate level.

A 28-hour course for international professionals and others who want to improve their pronunciation and conversational English. Course goals are to improve fluency and speaking competence by practicing the vocabulary, expressions, and grammatical forms needed for everyday communication, both at work and in daily life. Pronunciation instruction includes vowel and consonant sounds, rhythm, stress, and intonation. Skills related to public speaking are included in the course. This course will help you gain confidence in your English and to communicate more effectively and fluently as a public speaker and in everyday conversation.

TIEP designs and delivers special programs for secondary school students from outside the U.S. These programs focus on English language learning and information about U.S. culture and the United States generally, with a range of activities which may include classroom instruction, field trips, home stays, and bringing program students together with U.S. students of the same age and grade. Secondary school programs are especially attractive during vacation periods when non-U.S. schools are not in session.
