About Studio Cambridge

Studio Cambridge is one of the longest-established English language schools in Britain, and the oldest and largest language school in Cambridge. We are well known and respected in the industry for providing specialist programmes to adult and junior students.

Our main school is housed in beautiful Victorian buildings belonging to Cambridge University. Year-round we can cater for students aged 14+ and offer general and intensive English lessons, IELTS preparation, FCE and CAE preparation, ministays and a junior camp. During the summer we open an additional 7 junior camps designed for specific age groups at some of the best schools and colleges that England has to offer!

We are not part of a chain of schools, we are privately owned and managed, and all of our central services, such as Accommodation, Welfare, Activities staff are based at our main school in Cambridge. In this way we get to meet and to know our students and partners and can treat everyone as individuals.

We run two general English courses which run all year round; English for life 20 and English for Life 28. Our EFL courses are for all levels of English, from Beginner to Advanced. Lessons start every Monday and students can study with us for as long as they like.

Our English for Life 20 course is in general English, with no specialisation. It consists of 20 lessons (15 hours) each week. Lesson start at 09:15 and finish at 12:45, Monday to Friday. It is ideal for students who prefer to have their afternoons free. Lessons will be adapted to the needs and learning styles of the students in class. The teaching will be balanced with practice – students will learn and practice English, with an emphasis on speaking.

Our EFL 28 course is the most effective way for students to improve their English in the shortest possible time. This intensive course consists of 28 lessons (21 hours) of teacher-led instruction in the classroom as well as homework, out of class assignments, independent study in the Learning centre and private meetings with teachers to discuss progress. Lessons start at 9.15 and finish at 15:15 Monday to Thursday and start at 9:15 and finish at 12:45 on Fridays.

Students will also have 5 different options to choose from for their afternoon lessons:

Option 1 - Language Skills Plus
This option builds on your morning lessons. Each lesson focuses on one of the four main language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Your teachers will use exciting practical materials and techniques such as radio interviews, articles, songs and film clips followed by a discussion of their content. There is additional emphasis on vocabulary and pronunciation. This study option is suitable for all levels of English from beginner to advanced.

Option 2 - Cultural and Linguistic Studies
This option covers a range of cultural and linguistic areas such as English literature, film and video, international studies, grammar workshop, writing workshop and pronunciation clinic. This study option is suitable for levels intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced.

Option 3 - English for Business
This option develops your fluency in English in the environment of international business and the English-speaking workplace. The course specialises in communication and looks at areas such as: Preparing and analysing reports, sales negotiation and business plans. This study option is suitable for levels intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced.

Option 4 - IELTS Foundation
This option can be taken on its own or before taking option 5 (IELTS Preparation) or our IELTS Examination Course –IELTS 28. This course focuses on the reading and writing sections of the IELTS exam. This study option is suitable for levels pre-intermediate and intermediate.

Option 5 - IELTS Preparation
This option can be taken on its own or as preparation for our IELTS Examination Course – ILETS 28. The aim of the course is to bring your skills up to IELTS bands 5.0 – 8.0. It offers the perfect preparation if you plan to study on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course at an English-speaking university or if you intend to take our IELTS Examination course. This study option is suitable for levels intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced.

We run specialised courses to prepare students for the IELTS, FCE and CAE exams. The courses give intensive exam preparation and students will have the opportunity to take the exam at the end of the course if they wish to do so.

Our exam courses run for a number of weeks and on specific dates. Students will also be taught how to finish each task in the time allocated and will be given plenty of exam practice. Teachers will continuously check the students' progress to ensure they remember all the academic language taught during class.

At Studio Cambridge we run various summer camp courses as well as a winter camp course for young learners. Our summer camps combine the study of English language with a full programme of activities and excursions. Our summer camp courses are designed for different age groups and are held in different locations.

• Ages 8 to 13 - Sir Edward – in Ely
• Ages 9 to 14 - Sir Henry – in Bishop’s Stortford
• Ages 10 to 16 - Sir Richard – in Reading - with dance option
• Ages 12 to 16 - Sir Laurence –at the University of Cambridge with intensive course – University Discovery theme
• Ages 14 to 17 - Sir William – in London with standard and intensive options, with the opportunity to take IELTS – London Discovery theme
• Ages 13 to 17 - Sir Michael – in Cambridge (Homestay option also available. Residences have mostly single ensuite rooms)– with an optional Global Leaders, Coding or Creative Social Media programme
• Ages 16 to 19 - Sir Christopher – at the University of Cambridge with standard and intensive options, with the opportunity to take IELTS – University Discovery theme

We offer special themes, including “University Discovery” and “London Discover” at several of the camps.

During autumn and winter we run the Sir George winter camp. The course is an intensive English programme that consists of 28 lessons of study each week. It is designed for students aged 14 to 17 years who wish to combine effective English study with a programme of interesting afternoon activities. The course can be taken for a minimum of one week and for a maximum of 4 weeks.
Morning lessons at Sir George: 20 lessons are held in the morning from Monday to Friday. The content of these lessons differs according to the level of each class. However, all programmes include the intensive study of; Grammar, speaking skills, pronunciation and intonation, listening comprehension, writing skills and reading comprehension.
Afternoon lessons at Sir George: The remaining 8 lessons are held in the afternoons. The content of these lessons is Academic skills, including:
• Preparing and delivering a mini-presentation
• How to write an essay
• Debating
• Team work and leadership
• Reading between the lines
• Independent study skills

Students may have the option of taking an IELTS exam at extra cost during their course.

Students will receive a certificate of studies at the end of the course and a full Academic report.

There will also be 4 afternoon activities after lessons each week.

Sir George offers homestay accommodation. Students can chose to have a single room or a shared bedroom with another student of the same sex who does not speak the same language as them. All meals are included in the price, bed linen will be changed once a week and laundry will be washed once per week.

This programme is sold as a package and includes: tuition, accommodation, 3 meals per day, social activities, transfers on arrival and departure from/to Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted airports, registration and medical insurance.
