ABC Languages has been in Cambridge for 30 years, helping our clients communicate, whatever the language, whatever their need. We teach English and most other languages as well as providing translation,  interpreting and cultural briefing services. ABC is family owned and managed, and professionally accredited: You’ll get personal attention from people who care, with the assurance of quality and accountability.

When it comes to studying English, we focus on what makes a successful course: our group sizes are relatively small, our timetables flexible; we offer specialist individual training, and the course price includes ongoing monitoring and assessment with a certificate at the end.

We’ve made it easy to put together your perfect programme. You simply choose the course you want, then add any extras, such as accommodation, airport transfers, exam entries…  you pay only for what you really need.

Group20
With a Group20 course you study in the mornings Monday to Friday.

The mornings are divided into two lessons of 1.5 hours each, with a 15-minute break in between.

You change teachers at break, but we aim to keep the same two teachers working with you long-term.

In Lesson 1 (09:30 – 11:00) your teacher will give you work from a course book, which will provide the framework of your course, with a range of additional materials to make your lessons interesting and relevant. In our small groups, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discuss things with your teacher and classmates.

Lesson 2 (11:15 – 12:45) is more flexible, but may be linked to Lesson 1, including vocabulary extension, ‘spin off’ topics, whilst giving an opportunity for pronunciation practice, learn-to-learn skills and lots of speaking and listening practice.

Friday is the day for workshops, where you and your fellow students work on anything that specially interests you, or which you are concerned about. It’s also the day where your teachers can suggest topics they feel you should work on, and the day for intensive exam practice if applicable.

Students joining a Group20 course can choose to take additional 1:1 lessons in the afternoons - Group20 Plus.

Group20 Plus

Group20 Plus combines our Group20 course with private 1:1 lessons.

This course gives you the opportunity to study more intensively, focusing on whatever is most important to you: passing an exam, improving your pronunciation, writing business reports... It's your time, and the choice is yours too!
20 lessons in a group class, Monday - Friday 09.30-12.45

PLUS, in the afternoon, choose from:

2 x 2 one-to-one lessons per week (Group20 Plus 4)
Or
3 x 2 one-to-one lessons per week (Group20 Plus 6)
Or
4 x 2 one-to-one lessons per week (Group20 Plus 8)
Or
5 x 2 one-to-one lessons per week (Group20 Plus 10)

We enter students for the Cambridge exams, and will help you register for IELTS. Each exam has a different entry procedure, and registration may close as much as three months before the exam; some exams, such as summer sittings of IELTS, get fully booked very early, so it’s important to think ahead and be prepared to be flexible!

Exam entry fees are NOT included in course fees, and must be paid when you register for the exam.

Business English is available to adults (18+) all year round through our Group20 Plus course, Combined course, or Immersion course (1:1).
- Group20 Plus (morning group lessons plus 1:1 tuition in the afternoons)

Students joining a Group 20 course can choose to take additional 1:1 lessons in the afternoons - Group 20 Plus.

With a Group 20 Plus course, you can choose from Plus 4, 6, or 8 additional 1:1 lessons per week. The afternoons are divided into two lessons of 45 minutes each, which you spend working one-on-one with a tutor on topics that are of particular interest to you. As well as giving you the chance to extend and develop items from the morning course, there is time to focus on specific skills and learning goals.

The minimum booking for Group 20 Plus is four lessons per week. The minimum per afternoon is a block of two lessons (1.5 hours in total). Group 20 Plus is available all year round and can be taken with our General English, Business English, and Special Professional Options courses.

- Combined Course

This consists of studying general English for 20 lessons per week (09.30 -12.45) in a small group and spending 10 lessons per week working on an individual basis with a tutor focusing on your specific area/s of interest.

This can be work-related and/or linguistic: role-plays and discussion of authentic materials from your workplace; pronunciation practice, for example, or work on grammar - the choice is yours.

- Immersion Course

This course provides individual, tailor-made training for 30 lessons per week.

You will work with at least two tutors and concentrate totally on your own areas of interest. It is most effective at the extremes of the ability-range: total beginners who need to become functionally competent very fast, and those with a good level who find that they need to change the focus of their English skills (possibly due to a change of function within their company) or who need to develop a skill, such as negotiating or report-writing, that they have not needed previously.
