15 Week Course

Centre Linquistique was without a doubt the best choice for me in terms of a school for learning french. I took the 15 week immersion course, I started off at elementary one with basically enough french to exchange greetings and I had a very basic vocabulary. After 15 weeks I finished off as a intermediate 3, I was functional and confident in speaking and able to navigate my way through my life in french, and to also work a job requiring an intermediate language level. My teachers were always willing to work with me to customise what I was learning to suit my needs and my levels. They challenged me but always ensured that I had a solid understanding of the material before moving on. The classes and activities were varied and always interesting, and the instructors are very receptive to feedback so if there is an aspect of the class that isn't working for you, they're more than happy to work with you to find another way to approach the material.

The staff at the school were all amazing and supportive. They gave the the tools that I needed in order to adjust quickly to living in a francophone community. Living in Jonquiére with a french family also really enhanced my experience. I had people to speak with every day at home and a wonderful family who welcomed me into their home and and their lives. For english speakers, be prepared to leave English behind entirely because there aren't many who speak it. But in my experience in the community, even out on the street and in the shops people are always willing to be patient and help you figure out what you're trying to say.

One of the other advantages for me in taking the 15 week course was funding. Because the school is accredited, it is possible for anyone eligible for Canadian Student Loans to apply for loans and bursaries to attend this programme. Additionally, as a student from Saskatchewan my province had additional bursaries and travel allowances available as part of a second language training programme. The tuition and housing costs are already very reasonable for the services provided and it's more than possible to find funding to cover those costs.

While at the Centre Linquistique I truly felt like I was part of a community. I grew as a french speaker and as a person, and will always remember with fondness my time living in Jonquière.

Actually, I was in Ottawa for an English Immersion Program and it was excellent! The course, the activities, my host family were so wonderful! They always cared about us. If you are thinking about take this French or English Language course, Collége de Jonquiére is the best choice!

Le programme du Centre linguistique du Collège de Jonquière à mon avis est tres complet, le programme d'etudes, les jeux, les activites, et la disponibilite des enseignants est tres bonne. Le environnement est tres confortable.
