Lusa Language School offers Portuguese lessons, both onsite and online, for foreigners. The school is located in Cais do Sodré, in the heart of Lisbon. Lusa school is committed to delivering high-quality and personalised classes, according to age, background and learning needs. Our dynamic classes encourage students to learn how to use their Portuguese in real-life situations, primarily through interactive exercises.
Our teachers and staff are highly-trained and offer a breadth of both academic and practical experience. Our teachers and staff speak a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, German, in addition to Portuguese. Our teachers teach standard European Portuguese, but an enthusiasm to learn about different Lusophone cultures is encouraged at our school.
Lusa School organises regular social events for our students so that they can know each other and the city. These events could be, for example, dinners on Fridays and visits to the most famous monuments in Lisbon such as the castle and Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.

In the intensive course, students will have the opportunity to rapidly acquire and develop the four aspects of language learning: comprehension, oral and written production, communicative and interactive skills. Students are encouraged to take an active, systematic approach to grammar and to use it in a natural, communicative way. The intensive Portuguese course will monitor the student’s communication skills and the ability to use Portuguese in real-life situations through the use of role-play, debates for intermediate and advanced levels, excerpts of films and music, and other interactive methods. The intensive course takes place either in the morning or the afternoon for 4 hours a day so the students spend half of the day learning Portuguese and have the other half free to explore Lisbon.

These Portuguese lessons will help you prepare for the CAPLE exams (“Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira” or “Centre for Evaluation of Portuguese as a Foreign Language”) whether you are looking for a A2 (pre-intermediate) or a C2 (proficient) level. Reading and listening comprehension, written and oral communication skills, grammar and vocabulary are evaluated in the exam and these are the components focused in the classroom.

This course was designed to enhance workplace communication skills by providing a variety of business-related language-learning activities – such as how to conduct phone calls, write emails, and more. In the classroom you’ll participate in oral activities that aim to help business learners improve their proficiency in listening to and speaking Portuguese. Writing activities will also be assigned for homework. Rigorous self-study outside of the classroom is expected in order for students to gain the most from this course.

Online lessons are aimed at those who want to learn Portuguese but live outside Lisbon or have an inflexible work or study schedule. All you need is a computer connected to the internet and you can attend classes from the comfort of your home at the time that suits you better. These lessons offer the advantage of personal customisation as the teacher can adapt methods and topics to the interests and needs of the student. Once objectives have been set, a customized program can be designed. Learning exercises that can be effectively executed online will be used such as question-answer games, conversations and written homework.

Our private tutors adapt the method and the class topics to the interests and professional or personal needs of the student. This means that these Portuguese lessons are, to some extent, customised. Private lessons use a large element of question-answer exercises, adapted to the student’s level. Dynamic tasks are also used to acquire vocabulary and informal conversations between the teacher and student.
