Our General English courses are designed to help you communicate more effectively and confidently in everyday situations. This course is ideal if you want to improve your English skills in a short amount of time and study from between 1 and 23 weeks. Your lessons will focus on improving your confidence and your speaking and listening skills.

After you take a General English course at St Giles, you should:
• be able to speak with greater confidence and fluency with an increased vocabulary
• have developed your listening, reading and writing skills
• have a greater understanding of the grammatical structure of English


General English Group

Group classes offer you the best value for money and the opportunity to benefit from interaction with other language learners from all over the world. Our maximum class size is 12, which ensures that you will have personal attention from your teacher. You can choose to take either 28 lessons per week for an intensive programme to help you maximise your progress, or 20 lessons per week (in the mornings or afternoons) if you would like to have more free time during your stay. There is also a 22 lesson per week option in the USA for students on an F1 Student Visa. You can also choose to increase your progress during your stay by taking 5 or more additional One-to-one lessons per week.


General English for Beginners

This English course of 2 - 4 weeks is carefully designed to deliver essential language skills in a supportive learning environment. It is suitable for students with little or no English Language knowledge and teaches basic grammar and vocabulary, as well as speaking and listening skills. Students will practise everyday English from the beginning of the course, which will improve their
communication skills and boost their confidence. After completing the General
English for Beginners course, students can progress onto a longer General English or International Semester Course at A1 (Elementary) level. You can also choose to increase your progress during your stay by taking 5 or more additional One-to-one lessons per week.


General English One-to-one

Choose One-to-one lessons if you want to develop your skills in a short amount of time and benefit from lessons designed for your needs. You can choose how many lessons you would like each week. In the lessons you can focus on developing your fluency, learn special vocabulary or prepare for an examination. One-to-one lessons can also be combined with any group programme to maximise progress and experience both a tailored programme and the dynamics of group lessons.

The minimum age for this course is 16.

Business English:

Our Business English course is a 4-week intensive programme available at St Giles Vancouver. The course is designed for students who want to improve
their Business English using core business skills. This is a project based programme with exceptional feedback from students.

Topics will include the following:
• Business vocabulary and terms
• Understanding cultural
differences
• The language of Marketing &
Sales
• Negotiating in English

The course can be taken as a module on an International Semester Course.

University Pathway Programme

The University Pathway Programme (UPP) at St Giles Vancouver is designed to help students prepare for future study at a university in Canada. To succeed at an English-speaking university or college in Canada, you will need to develop not only your English skills but also your academic skills. The 16-week UPP course covers English skills, academic skills and examination preparation. It also include community volunteer project. Each element of the course is carefully designed for successful integration into Canadian university life. The University Pathway Programme is unique in that it includes community focus tasks during the Volunteer Projects which foster social skills development. Throughout the course students will also have individual academic counselling, career guidance and assistance with applications to their chosen universities.

The minimum age for this course is 16.

Platinum Courses are designed for professionals, executives and mature learners looking to enhance their language ability and skills in a short amount of time. All courses are tailored to meet the needs of the clients. Platinum courses are available in our dedicated Platinum Centres in Brighton, London Central, New York City, San Francisco and Vancouver.

Platinum Courses

When you book a Platinum Course at St Giles, we will send you a link to our online pre-course questionnaire. This is designed to find out what you need and want from your time with us. We then use this to design the programme for you. We adapt group courses to address the needs of all clients in the class, whilst one-to-one lessons will be tailored specifically for you.

Group classes will commonly include English skills for:
• Meetings
• Negotiations
• Presentations
• Social Situations
• Written Communications

Clients taking one-to-one classes can choose to have training in English for Special Purposes such as Aviation, Law, Finance, Journalism, the Military, Human Resources and Medicine. For busy clients, we can also offer
flexible training with in-company


Platinum Centres

The Platinum Centres are separate from the rest of the school, offering an exclusive place to study, relax and network with other professionals. They
feature modern classrooms with the latest equipment and resources, as well as comfortable and relaxing Platinum lounges. Our Platinum lounges offer you
a warm and friendly welcome from our Platinum staff, business facilities including free Wi-Fi, and complimentary refreshments. Platinum Living Outside the classroom we invite you to participate – along with your classmates and language
trainers – in social and cultural activities every week, giving you the chance to further improve your skills in a relaxed social environment. One complimentary social programme activity will be offered to you every two weeks. One-to-one clients also enjoy a complimentary three-course lunch with their trainer at the end of their course. We also offer you a choice of carefully selected accommodation. For Platinum clients, we particularly recommend Superior Homestay (with the option to have a private bathroom at most centres) or our choice of Hotels and Guest Houses.

Nestled in acres of beautiful gardens, with a regional park next door and the Pacific Ocean within walking distance, UBC is a beautiful setting for a summer programme.

UBC offers students a modern university experience with onsite residential accommodation of an extremely high standard. The campus also boasts fantastic sporting facilities, the Vancouver Museum of Anthropology, an award winning Arts Centre, and the beautiful Botanical Gardens. All of this is only 15 minutes away from the city.

Our programme offers student the chance to experience the best of Vancouver and British Columbia. During their stay, all students will enjoy 2 full-day and 2 half-day excursions per week.

The course is for 10 -18 year olds.
