• an emphasis on creative writing, drawing on the study of texts throughout the course
• a non examined component that allows learners to develop their interests and expertise through a piece of independent and sustained comparative analysis and a piece of original nonfiction writing
• a wide-ranging anthology of spoken and written non-fiction texts spanning different contexts and time periods forms a key element in the teaching
of linguistic approaches
• an appealing and interesting selection of set texts, carefully chosen for the requirements of each component
• a very wide range of literary texts, from Shakespeare and Brontë to 21st century writers such as playwright Jez Butterworth, and nonfiction genres such as transcripts, satire and memoirs
