Established in 1863, Southbank Institute of Technology has a proven record as Queensland's leading provider of high-level vocational and technical education. In 2009-10 Southbank Institute educated 28,600 students across 114 different course areas. Currently, there are 3,521 international students studying at Southbank Institute from more than 90 countries. Courses are offered in civil engineering and built environment, business and management, performing arts and creative industries, nursing and health services, hospitality and tourism, sciences, multimedia and IT, beauty and fitness and community services. Modern training facilities include purpose-built classrooms and laboratories. These facilities give our students practical experience with working with real life clients. In addition, industry-savvy teachers and our close partnerships and associations with industry provide our students unique opportunities to gain real-work experience, one of the reasons why Southbank Institute graduates are in high demand with employers. Many of the Institute's diplomas have links with bachelor degrees as a pathways to further study. Southbank Institute currently has 140 formal pathways to university in place. For students who want a university degree, we provide students with access to leading universities including Australian Catholic University, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, University of the Sunshine Coast, University of Queensland and more.
