The Language Connection (TLC) exemplifies St. John’s University's commitment to international education and to the promotion of global understanding. Our mission is to provide learners with quality language instruction, while helping them gain the academic skills and cultural knowledge necessary for their success in academic programs at St. John’s University and other academic institutions, and in their future professional and personal lives. With program locations in Queens and Manhattan, students can choose what works best for their individual situations.

Our intensive English program connects the classroom to the real world, focusing on the English you will need to communicate effectively in academic, business, or personal settings. In our classes, we use up-to-date technology tools to talk about today’s news; help you write clear, organized emails and essays; and improve your comprehension of movies, conversations and lectures. Our methods – like our materials – are new and fresh, and will help you achieve your goals.
The Language Connection is dedicated to helping students after regular class times by offering many program extras, and our online application is available in multiple languages.
Full-time students are eligible for I-20s. (For more information on I-20 application requirements, click here.) Our part-time program lets you choose one, two, or more classes per week. Our programs help you learn to communicate in the real world, whether your focus is on academic advancement, business success, or social situations.

Tuition: reasonably priced courses - $1890 for intensive, 7-week sessions
Conditional Admission to St. John's University: available for qualified students who complete our full-time program
Au Pairs: each course qualifies for CEUs (continuing education units) towards your educational requirement

Business English programs and courses are offered at St. John’s Manhattan campus, home of St. John’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, and the International Insurance Society headquarters. Its proximity to the business and financial hubs of the city, as well as the resources available to program participants within our facilities combine to provide the optimal environment for business professionals to enhance their language skills and cultural knowledge.
More and more multinational companies have adopted English as their language for conducting business. The challenge is that not all employees have had sufficient language training or have gained the confidence needed to navigate their way through the necessary language transactions they face every day.
Global English for Business Executives is designed to help non-native English speaking business leaders refine their English skills and cultural competence in order to communicate more effectively and easily in the global business environment.
Courses
Speaking in the Business World
Knowing what to say and how to say it may be the determining factor to a business’s success or failure. In this course, business executives will gain confidence communicating in English by engaging in role plays, mock interviews, formal and informal oral presentations, and simulated meetings to hone the English communication skills and culture-specific practices they will need in the global business environment.
Business Writing (memos, emails, reports, proposals)
The business world demands that written communication be clear and concise. In this course, business executives will learn and practice a system for writing that helps them generate and outline their ideas effectively and efficiently in emails, memos, short reports, and proposals. Business vocabulary and jargon are emphasized for more precise expression.
Grammar for Business Writing
In a business setting, accurate, fluid written communication is essential for clarity of meaning and the impression the writer wants to make. In this course, business executives will examine and correct troublesome grammar structures that are particular to non-native writers of English.
Customized Courses
Courses can be created around the specific vocabulary and idiomatic expressions required for certain business groups. Such highly customized courses might necessitate sending a team member to sit in on corporate meetings – or other company interactions -- to identify the terminology to be used in materials for this course. The cost of highly customized courses will be determined depending on what is required to design such courses.

At the beginning, I want to say thank you to St John's University TLC program. It's my great honor to be here to enhance my language skill. What I have learned is not only how to be a native speaker, but also to be a native thinker. There are many excellent professors and teachers, who are full of passion and knowledge. What's more, they are very warm and kind heart . They can teach us in an easily way to understand. At the same time, there are many meaningful programs we can join, such as making conversation with professors regularly, celebrating the traditional festivals and taking tour bus to visit Manhattan and so on. We can improve our English skill inside and outside the class. After the intensive studying, I have gained a lot. I have made a lot of friends from different countries, and I have learned a variety of culture knowledge which I have never known before. Therefore, I think it's absolutely right choice to study here for me.
I love St John's, I love all the members of TLC. This is my best moment which I cherish forever.
