About Wisconsin English Second Language Institute (WESLI )

WESLI has been training teacher since 1999 and General English since 1981. You can find us in downtown Madison, Wisconsin – just across the street from the state capitol building. Madison, located in the heart of the mid-west, is a medium-sized city, which is friendly, very safe and inexpensive to live in. There are a number of universities in town, for example the internationally top-ranked University of Wisconsin Madison. Students can choose to stay with homestay families or in our Dormitory.

Many of our staff and teachers have been with us at WESLI for more than 15 years and most of our administrative staff members also teach or have done so in the past. That way students can be sure to always have a helping hand from someone with a passion for helping students and the experience to do so.

We offer 7 levels (zero level to University Bridge) of English instruction in the areas of Business English, General English & American Culture, Test Prep. and Academic Preparation. Over 40 universities and colleges accept our students without a TOEFL score. Students are welcome to study for any length of time and we are very proud to offer a 5-week Teacher Training Program, including a 30-hour Practicum.

It has no methodology for adults - bad Homestay

I cannot recommend WESLI, I feel that it did not meet my expectations. It does not have a methodology to teach adults, You are in class with 14-year-old students who have different ways of learning compared to an adult woman, like me.
More than 15 students can be in its classes, it does not have a library to serve students, they sell everything, even face masks for 1 dollar. I do not recommend Wesli. Siento que se aprovechan de la gente y el servicio es muy regular.

The Homestay service was terrible, I paid $1,000 per month and it was lousy food they did not comply with the vegetarian option and I was always alone in the house.

The agency in Colombia #cosmopolitaneducation told me that it was not their fault that I was poor. I never asked for a discount, I felt cheated and. I don't want the same thing to happen to someone else. Find another place to study English; also, Madison does not have many offers in recreation

No recomiendo Wesli.

Because of wesli, I spend nine years in the USA

I was planning to spend half year in the ESL, after graduated from the University in 2005. Just like other people, I want to improve my English skills in order to get a better job in my country. Then, I picked WESLI. After three sessions studied (from 400 level), I realized that my English skills were still not good enough. I spent another half year studying in the WESLI. Then, my teacher told me that I could apply for graduated school in the USA. Therefore, I applied and got an admission.
My mystery journey just started. I even got my second master degree in the UW-Madison. I meet my husband and had my wedding party in my lovely teacher’s living room. I had my first baby born in the US. I moved back to China in 2014. You know what? I had never gotten a formal job so far. However, I enjoy my life a lot.
This year, I had a chance to visit my teachers in the WESLI, and stayed in my lovely teacher’s house. For me, they are not only my teachers, but also my families. Friends I meet in the WESLI from other countries, we are still keep in touch and meet sometimes.

WESLI is like a HOME

WESLI is really a wonderful place for you to learn English and American culture. You not only meet great teachers and classmates there, but also can totally involve in the American culture.
The teachers not just teach you English; they let you involve in their life, treat you as friends. These wonderful experiences are really way beyond what you can think of before you go there.
WESLI is really a HOME not a school.

WESLI teachers help me a lot ----Lu

WESLI's course and teachers help me a lot, especially in my career. I was a student at WESLI 10 years ago and I'm a Baker now. It seem like don't use English
often. Without WESLI , I can't read lot of
English version about baking and can't discuss with foreign Baker about baking skills. So WESLI ' teachers give me GOOD foundation!!! That's why I can write a review here and my experience!!

Ossis of happiness

WESLI its my home in Madison because I have not felt I left my family during my time when I was at WESLI. You could find quality of education in anywhere but what a special about WESLI the environment they provide it for you so you will go through experience you will never forget in your entire life and I am sure you will be always tell stories to your family, friends, and children or your grandchildren in your future about your memories over there. WESLI has a lot of impacted on my life not by just learning English but by opening my mined and let me interact with many people from all over the world and taught me that we are human no matter where we come from. I miss the classes I took outside in the yard of the capital of Wisconsin and the activities that we had in James Madison Park. I miss the days when I met my friends and teachers in the Farmer market in every weekend and eat the hot & spicy cheese bread which I will suggest to anyone are willing to live in Madison. I miss my spiritual mother Sue Manners who always close from me and all the students and always provide help no matter the situations you are in. I have many things to tell about WESLI but I don't want to burn how the life look like there by telling you everything so go there and get the experience I had and I am positive you will never regret that ;)

Sincerely,

Beloved school, the best memories ever! Wesli and Madison, always close to my heart, even after 20+years! I was a student at Wesli in the 90s. My learning experience there proved to be a soild foundation for further studies, work and personal development through the years. I clearly remember the quality and dedication that informed the whole teaching effort and activities.Best wishes, and a bright future for you all, current participants and staff.
