The two Directors of Leeds English established the school in 2001. Our motivation was to create a school where quality of education and first class English language teaching was at the core of everything we did. Since then it has been our job to make sure that the school’s aims and values are always at the centre of everything we do.

We both have many years experience in education. Bob Charlton has a BSc (Hons) in Management and the Trinity Cert: TESOL and has been working in EFL since 1995, both as a teacher and in senior EFL management. Bob has worked all over the world – in Turkey, Spain, Indonesia and Australia, and has specialised in IELTS preparation and academic English, as well as being an IELTS examiner. Mike Corbett has a BA (Hons) from Durham University as well as a Management Diploma and Master’s degree in Education from Leeds University. Mike has worked in education for over 30 years – in schools as a teacher and Deputy Head, and in a sixth form college as Vice Principal. He has written several textbooks and been a Chief Examiner for a UK national examinations board. Together we work to maintain standards and continually improve the school.

When anyone asks us “why has Leeds English become so successful”, we talk about our ‘aims’ and our ‘values’. When anyone asks us what the ‘aim’ of our school is, the answer is very simple. To teach English. Effectively, clearly, and enjoyably. Every student who comes to Leeds English will receive a good English education. This is our guarantee to you.

When anyone asks us what our ‘values’ are, the number one priority is, and has always been, ‘quality‘. Quality of teaching, quality of student welfare, and quality of management. This is what the reputation of the school has been built on. This is what makes Leeds English such a good school.

So, when anyone asks our students “what do you like most about Leeds English?”, some will say they really enjoy the lessons, some will say it feels safe and friendly – ‘like a family’ – and others will say they love being in Leeds with other students from all over the world. Many different things combine together to make Leeds English what it is today, but at the heart of everything is ‘quality’. This is what our reputation is built on.

This is why Leeds English has become so successful.
