About Instituto Mediterráneo Sol

Since 1992 Instituto Mediterráneo Sol (IMSOL) has been offering spanish language courses in Granada, a city with rich history and unique surroundings, which promises its visitors a pleasant and memorable time.
IMSOL follows the CEN regulations (Comité Européen de Normalisation) concerning the language study trips. Moreover our school is Instituto Cervantes Accredited Teaching Centre.
Our programmes are designed in accordance with the levels of the European Common Reference Framework for Languages (Council of Europe) and with the Curricula Plan of the Cervantes Institute.

We offer a broad variety of Intensive Spanish Courses, regarding the type and also the number of Spanish lessons per week, will make your choice easier whether you are a professional or a University student, a teenager, a retired person, or simply someone who wish to study Spanish in Granada just for fun. In these pages you’ll find all what you need.

This Spanish course has 4 classes / day in group:
2 classes of communicative grammar

and 1 individual lesson per day where the contents suit the participants’ learning needs and preferences.

V. Individual Spanish course in Granada (Spain):

2,3 or 4 individual lessons / day - 10, 15 or 20 lessons / week. All levels.
Students can choose the number of individual Spanish classes per week they wish to attend. “Tailor-made” classes for suiting the participant’s learning, professional interests and needs. These individual classes can be combined with all the courses we offer.
Individual lessons are made up in case of bank holidays.

VII. Spanish Grammar Courses in Granada (Spain):

Instituto Mediterráneo Sol, in collaboration with a nursery, offers a special program called Spanish for Families. It has been organized in order to allow parents that want to learn Spanish in Granada to be relaxed by leaving their sons in a specialized place that would provide them morning care during their Spanish classes.

Spanish Course for Groups:

4 lessons / day - 20 lessons / week. All levels.
Since 1993 Instituto Mediterráneo Sol has been organizing language stays for young people. With us you can organize a group stay in Granada. It's a personalized program as the Spanish intensive courses are organized according to the school levels and fit for the teachers' needs or the group guide.

The programme can be chosen with these services:

Type of Intensive Spanish course: 15, 20 and 25 lessons / week, according to the school course planning and levels or according to the teacher or group organizer’s indications (option for students coming with the same level).

Accommodation

Home-stay (option suggested for minors)

We suggest to choose the Spanish homestay accomodation in case the group is under age: in a double room, with half/full board. It’s possible to stay in a single room by paying an extra charge.

Activities Program

To enhance the learning experience we also offer daily activities. The program is customized to the group and it can be decided by the groups guide or by Imsol. The activities run during the afternoon and they’ll be followed by a teacher of Imsol or by a professional guide (Ex. guided tours, classes about Spanish culture…)

Every week we organize excursions to places of tourist and cultural interest, such as:

Alpujarra (typical Andalusian villages with white houses situated in the South part of Sierra Nevada)
Transfer

Instituto Mediterráneo Sol can organize a transfer service from the airport to Granada, if it’s required. This service will be done as follow:

Transfer from the airport to Granada: a person of the school will welcome the group in the airport and take them to Granada where all the families will be waiting for the students assigned.
Transfer from Granada: a person of the school will check that all the students are at the meeting point to leave to the airport. The person of the school will not take them to the airport.

Spanish Course for Teenagers:

4 lessons / day - 20 lessons / week. All levels.

This course is planned for teenagers between 13 and 17 years old (both inclusive). You can choose among 2, 3 or 4 weeks and there are special starting dates.

Minors will be accompanied from the moment of their arrival at the airport. As the TRANSFER (from Granada Airport)* is included in the course, a person will pick participants up at the airport and will bring them directly to their accommodation. This person is a professional taxi driver, who has been working with Inmsol since 1992. The day of the departure, this person will go to the accommodation and bring them to the airport.
The ACCOMMODATION for this course is HOME-STAY, full board which includes three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), double room (with a student of the same gender with a maximum age difference of 3 years).
The arrival is on the Sunday before the start of the course (from 16.00 hrs.), and the departure, on the Saturday, just after the end of it (before 12.00 hrs.). Any arrival before or departure after that must be made clear to the school and the extra nights paid.
The host families are of total confidence and with experience. Participants’ parents will receive in advance the address and the type of “family” where their children will live in. The Spanish family will have also all the information about the participants who are going to live with them before their arrival: nutritional habits, possible allergies, 24 hour telephone number for emergencies, … “curfew” for night outings,…
The deal with the participants is very familiar making them be part of the Spanish customs. The possibility of immersion is excellent for the learning of the language.
The Spanish families are in contact with the monitor and the school for any subject or information.
Host families will go with participants to the school on the first day of class.

During their stay there will be a MONITOR in charge of:
Being the point of reference for all students. Therefore there will be an initial meeting the first day of the course to know each other (monitor / students and student / student) and to explain how the programme works.
Over-seeing class attendance, making sure that the students are benefiting from the classes and behaving appropriately in them.
Controlling the attendance to all activities. Students will be expected to attend all those especially programmed for them.
Being available to the spanish family call if the student doesn’t respect the “curfew” for night outings.
Every going out, course or activity not organized by the school must be authorized by the parents and communicated to the school.
Being available on the 24-hour mobile phone number for emergencies.
Before the course starting, participants will undergo a LANGUAGE TEST in order to join the most suitable group.according to their Spanish level.
Each participant will have a STUDENT CARD, to obtain discounts in various shops (book shops, photo shops, fitness centres etc.)
The method of the INTENSIVE SPANISH COURSE OF 4 classes / day is totally adapted for them. The small groups create a friendly environment between participant and teacher, making more natural and inductive the learning of Spanish.
To enhance the learning experience there is a DAILY PROGRAMME OF CULTURAL AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES, organized by the school and carried out by the monitor and long experienced teachers. These activities take place in the afternoon and are of obligatory attendance for the minors. Some of them are:
Cultural Walks: Historical centre, areas of interest etc.
Social Activities: Music, History, Literature, young people reality, cinema, tapas tour, aquatic park…
Tutorials: 1 / week (45´). Once a week, we offer extra grammar lessons, in which students have the possibility to go through the most difficult points of the Spanish grammar.

An EXCURSION* per week to Andalusian towns and cities of interest such as La Alpujarra, Tropical Coast, Sevilla and Cordoba.
At the end of the course each participant will receive an IMSOL Attendance Certificate.
Participants can use extra services of our school: free access to Internet, library, loan service of boos, DVD ad videos.
Any course, excursion or activity that does not concern with the school has to be authorized by the parents and communicated to the school.
It is necessary for students to bring their medical insurance (european card or private insurance). If required, our school can provide a medical insurance for the duration of the stay.
There are Behaviour Rules for minors, that the school will provide both parents and participants before arrival and that will have to be accepted in order to enrol on our courses. If, once in the school, participants will not comply with them, their parents will be informed and IMSOL will take all the necessary steps according to the seriousness of behaviour.

Spanish Teacher Training

Spanish Course for Teachers

The teacher training course is a two week course with 20 lessons / week and it is offered not only for teachers with a proficiency level of Spanish but also for teachers with other levels of the language or students who want to become teachers. 20 lessons a week.

There are three options, depending on the participants’ needs:

OPTION A: For teachers of primary or secondary school with an independent use of the language (B1- Beginner), who wish to improve their grammatical and cultural skills aiming at Spanish teaching.
Distribution of lessons: 1st and 2nd lessons: M1. 3rd lesson: M3. 4th hour: M4.
OPTION B: For teachers with an independent use of the language (B1-Beginner and B2-Intermediate), who wish to improve their grammatical, teacher and cultural skills for the Spanish teaching. It’s also directed to all those who wish to get into knowledges, skills, technics and instruments to start the professional Spanish teaching.
Distribution of lessons: 1st lesson: M1. 2nd lesson: M2. 3rd lesson: M3. 4th hour: M4.
OPTION C: For teachers with an independent use of the language (C1- Proficiency), who wish to know about or improve all aspects of applied didactics and extend their knowledges about culture and traditions in Spain.
Distribution of lessons: 1st and 2nd lessons: M2. 3rd lesson: M3. 4th hour: M4.
Subjects:

M1: Spanish grammar in group lessons, depending on level.
M2: Methodology of Spanish as a Foreign Language: techniques, resources, classroom management. Lessons recorded on video for later analysis and comment by the group and teacher trainer.
M3: General topics of Spanish culture (literature, history, traditions…).
M4: Conversation and round table about general affairs concerning Spain in which the teacher will act as supervisor.
