There are also language certificates in Polish and one of these is known as Certificate Examiniations in Polish as a foreign language (in Polish: Egzaminy Certyfikatowe z Języka Polskiego jako Obcego). Since 2004 learners could write the exam to get a certificate indicating the level of their proficiency in Polish.

Who can write the exam?

There are two groups of students who can write the exam:

1) Students who are 18 years or older
2) Students aged between 14 and 17

Group 1 can write the exam with topics adapted to the needs of adults and for group 2 the topics are adapted to the needs of children and teenager.

Where can a learner write the exam?

It is possible to write the exam in Poland, but also in another country. The language certificate is valid all over the world and because of that there are examination centres in different countries, too. Before writing the exam you could prepare yourself for it. One possibility is to visit a language course in one of our language schools in Poland.

How much does it cost?

The prices depend on the level and also on the examination centre. But in the normal way the higher the level is the more expensive it is. This are the top prices for each level:

Group 1 (adults):

  • A1 or A2 -> 120 €
  • B1 or B2 -> 150 €
  • C1 or C2 -> 180 €

Group 2 (children and teenager):

  • A1, A2, B1 or B2 -> 90 €

The structure of the exam

This is the strucutre for the exam which is for adults:

Level A1

Duration and components of the written exam:

  • No longer than 120 minutes
  • Listening comprehension, reading comprehension and a writing part

Duration of the oral exam:

  • No longer than 10 minutes

Level A2

Duration and components of the written exam:

  • No longer than 160 minutes
  • Listening comprehension, reading comprehension with regard to grammatical structures and a writing part

Duration of the oral exam:

  • No longer than 10 minutes

Level B1

Duration and components of the written exam:

  • No longer than 190 minutes
  • Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, a grammar part and a writing part

Duration of the oral exam:

  • No longer than 15 minutes

Level B2

Duration and components of the written exam:

  • No longer than 250 minutes
  • Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, a grammar part and a writing part

Duration of the oral exam:

  • No longer than 15 minutes

Level C1

Duration and components of the written exam:

  • No longer than 250 minutes
  • Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, a grammar part and a writing part

Duration of the oral exam:

  • No longer than 20 minutes

Level C2

Duration and components of the written exam:

  • No longer than 290 minutes
  • Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, a grammar part and a writing part

Duration of the oral exam:

  • No longer than 30 minutes

The exams for children and teenager are nearly the same. The only difference are the topics. These are especially chosen for younger learners.
