Common Swedish phrases

 

The Swedish language has official status in countries Sweden and Finland and organizations Nordic Council and European Union. There are more than 9 million native speakers of Swedish in the world. The language is similar to and mutually intelligible with Norwegian and Danish.

Hej (also Hej hej) – Hi / Bye

God natt – Good night

Hur mår du? – How are you?

Jag mår bra, tack – I’m fine, thanks

Och du? – And you?

Bra  – Good

Sådär – So-so

Dåligt – Bad

Inte så bra – Not so good

Lycka till – Good luck

Vad heter du? – What’s your name?

Jag heter …  –  My name is …

Trevligt att träffas – Pleased to meet you

Var kommer du ifrån? – Where are you from?

Jag kommer ifrån … – I am from …

Vi ses snart – See you soon

Vi ses senare – See you later

Ha en bra dag – Have a good day
